my roomate left the light on my bike on, and the battery was drained. this is no longer the problem though. i went to jump start the bike, when i noticed sparks form the battery. my dumbwitted roomate had switched the cables on his battery, meaning + where - supposed to be. anyways, i yanked the cables off my battery. i checked the battery with a volt meter, and it was at 12.33 volts. low but not dead. i then jump stated it correctly and it started up fine. i noticed that the speedo and tach didnt work. WTF?? i have no idea why. it was running fine earlier today.well i rode the bike arond my apt complex, when it started to sputter and jerk and then finally died. PLEASE HELP!!!!!! i dont know what is wrong. i checked the fuses in the front, none are blown. i dont know what the relay is next to the fuse box. could that have been shorted?? could me ecu be shorted?? i dont know whats wrong. HELP please

Seriously... take 2 wires and your friend (roommate), and have him hold one end of each wire. Then plug the other 2 into a heavy duty dryer outlet (240 Volts), and enjoy.
On the other end... your buddy's actions have probably cost you a set of gauges. There are diodes inside the guages. There job is to reduce the incomming voltage from 12v to =5vdc(Zenerdiode) and make sure that the direction of the electrons are in a specific direction. When he connected your battery backwards... he fried them (or at least one or two)- thereby overpowering their resistance to backward voltage. If you can tear the guage apart and take it to a tv repair person... he might be able to find out which were fried, and then he could replace the bad ones. Don't know how much that might cost you... but you could try that.
NOTE-lesson to learn from... don't let anybody get close to your bike. Period.
Good luck. images/icons/smile.gif

is this also why the bike dies when it is running?? after i jumped the bike, i rode it for about 5 mins, and then it died after sputtering. any ideas on why that happened? thanks
