: new comer....with a tech ?
deftone 04-11-2002, 12:58 AM hello...i have a 99' gsxr 600...i recently put a rs3 bolt on yosh pipe on my bike...switched to sinthetic blend oil...and a k&n air filter...i have about 5000 miles on the bike...in past years i've only done oil changes....so here is the problem, my bike is riding like crap now...i thought it might have been bad gas but it's not cuz i let the whole tank filter through...when i give it gas it boggs down until about 6500 rpm and then it takes off fine...i did not have this problem last season with all the factory stuff on...the few things i think it might be are spark plugs(never been changed), possible rejet job (don't want to pay for it) or some setting i'm not aware of....if anyone can help i would really appreciate it..
thanks

DeeOne 04-11-2002, 01:01 AM Well once you put a new pipe on it you should have remaped, that should help alot
Or in his case, a rejetting images/icons/grin.gif
With a pipe and a K&N, it flows lots more air and thus, the air\fuel mixture is screwed. I think, what u're experiencing are the lean surges .
Only one way around this images/icons/grin.gif
Jet kit and dyno runs graemlins/thumbup.gif
Also, check if your chain + sprocket setup is worn out. I experienced low rpm roughness when my chain was at the end of its life. graemlins/idea.gif
Got new chains + sprockets, and it's running smooth as images/icons/smile.gif

gixkix 04-11-2002, 02:52 AM Hey Deftone, welcome to the board graemlins/thumbup.gif
I agree with Katz that you are probably running lean due to the K&N and the pipe. A rejet is absolutely the way to go. It might be a good idea to give your bike a service. New plugs, check all settings and synch your carbs.
I think the jet kit will solve most of your problems.
deftone 04-11-2002, 09:03 AM i was unfortunatly excpecting that...when i ordered the pipe i only ordered a bolt because it said i wouldn't have to rejet...i didn't want to dump a lot of time and money in this bike cuz i'd like to upgrade to a 750 or 1000 soon....is rejetting hard to do or is it something i could do myself?...thanks for all the feed back...on a side note, if i took the k&n filter out would that probably help?
thanks again

tone<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You've got nothing to lose by taking out the K&N and sticking the standard filter back in, most bikes run "OK" with just a change of end can....but as everyone says on here, re-jetting is the ideal thing to do even if it runs OK....in which case you might aswell put the K&N back in and enjoy the extra horses!! graemlins/bounce.gif
Hammer 4 04-11-2002, 09:04 PM On my ol 97 600, I had the Yosh RS-3, K&N. and a stage I jet kit..ran just fine..If ya don't wanna rejet..I'd pull the K&N out..also ya might wanna go up 2 in the rear if ya haven't already..it will run a tad easier at lower rpm's...and for wheelies.. images/icons/grin.gif Almost forgot..might wanna have your carbs sync'd..if ya haven't done so..

deftone 04-11-2002, 09:51 PM i talked to the local shop here in town and they said i could get away with shimming and adjusting the needles that are in there already...has anyone tried this and does it work?...like i said before i really didn't want to dump more $ in to this bike cuz i want a 750 or 1000...how hard is it to rejet and or adjust the existing jets yourself...what would syncing my carbs acomplish and is that a do it yourself kind of job?...thanks again for all the feed back...this site is great images/icons/grin.gif

tone<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Well...a shop did all the work on my 600, so I couldn't tell ya if doing the needles would work..I only mentioned sync'ing the carbs, because if they are out, then the problem is amplifiyed..i.e. when the carbs are out of sync..you would experience the same thing..runs crappy to about 6k..then runs fine..ect..once again..I had my shop do the carbs..sorry..
