Yesterday I slipped on a sand patch and me and my 99 GSXR600 slid across the road. My bottom fairings all all scratched up and I dont really know what the name of the part is but its on the left side and the fairing has a hole for it. That part has a hole and is leaking some kind of oil. I think its a Cap? How much is that to fix? Also the bike doesnt start up but i hear a tick sounds when i press the ignition. I know a car starts up without oil does the bike do the same or is there something else that might be wrong. Sorry for all the stupid questions but im new to the bike scene. Thanks.

The metal cover on the left side of the bike is the generator cover, or some might call it a stator cover. It needs to be replaced if it has a hole in it (I'm sure you knew that). How deep is the hole. If it ground down far enough to grind what's behind that cover (the generator) it could cause the no start problem.
But there are tons of other things that could cause that problem as well. You might just want to take it to a shop. Good Luck!

I dunno how deep the hole was but deep enough to leak fluid from it. It seems like oil bt does the generator store oil in it?

So the generatir does store oil in it, but it's the same oil that the rest of the engine uses, so when it leaks out oil, your whole engine is losing oil.
That's why I'm worried. If the bike ran without oil for any amount of time, it can do severe damage to the engine, including fusing the pistons in place, which would cause the bike not to start.
But I don't think that happened because it doesn't sound like the whole was very big, and a lot of oil would have to come out to starve the engine, not to mention it should have a tipover switch so it will die when you fall over.

Some people also call that cover the Magnito cover. And yes it has motor oil in it (kinda).

There is a oiler jet that pumps oil into it to keep it clean and cool... If hit hard enough, the coils in there could be locked on the crank shaft (there is a housing on the end of the crank shaft that it sits in). Also, like rat said, if the motor ran for a long time on its side (tip over switch should stop this if it was not deactivated) it could over heat and seize... You would not need to loose a lot of oil for this as the oil sump would not be getting oil with the bike on its side... images/icons/frown.gif

Didnt take my bike very long at all when the oil pump stopped working. Seized the cam shafts and scarred the mains preety bad. Be carefull not to do more damage than you already have. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

When i took my gen. cover off, i could see into the bottom of the engine??? Myabe its dif between the 97 -99. With anyone motor, u should never run it low on oil, or with a leak. Goto ronayers.com and goto generaotor cover, i think its like 45$. Get a new gaskett with it too. Then change the oil/filter, and you should be good to go. Might run a little weired at first, but take it out and open her up.

I hated the first time i dropped my bike, it sux recken the perrty girl. Atleast u werent hurt, and u learned from what u did.
