Very very sticky and probably at a retarded price tag

Funny how fast it looks, but at the same time it doesn't? you can't really see just how fast he's going. I know the camera was blocking his view abit, but he's kinda a back marker in F1, imagine being with one of the front runners :frantic

you think they can fit any more shit on that steering wheel?

What happens when he goes for a button and "woops" does he blow up a very expensive turbo or launch a nuke?

Keep in mind, he was also going out with relatively cold brakes and tires ( they had warmers, but I doubt they're at full temp right out of the gate ). This guy did only one lap, so by then the tires and brakes are just getting warmed up.

I believe the speed was on the steering wheel, but I question it a bit... do they really go 250+ ? :dunno

that's true, I think the speedo reading was in kph, I know the old V12's could get up to 340kph, and the V8's they run now can get up in the low 300's, it all depends on the gearing they have set up for the track they are on.

Ah, right. That makes sense... I just didn't guess KPH because I thought he would be going really slow then. :lol But if it's not a fast track AND has cold tires/brakes, he sure wouldn't be pushing it either. :dunno

Awesome! Used to be a fan of F1. Kind of got out of it but still watch it now and then.

I was always a fan of F1 and now they will be coming to NJ in 2013. I simply can not fucking wait. I just want to get as close to the track as I can and just hear 1 or 2 laps of all of them speeding by.

Oh just your basic stuff: launch learn, differential control, torque control, brake balance, :scared The amount of control the driver has over the car is insane. I'd probably break it...

Not sure, but you can bet their controls are much simpler than a F1 car. :lol Looking at the tech in F1, I say its time the GP riders have HUDs in their helmets. :lol

I would soo love to drive one of those for a couple hours..You prob wouldn't. Until you go balls to the wall fast, they don't work that well. Suspension, brakes, tires etc are all way out of operating temperature, suspension geometry is fucked up, etc. You just need giant balls. They actually handle better going faster (to a certain point, obviously).

A guy a few garages down from me at the track has a real IRL car. Fucking nuts.

Thats why I said a couple hours.. A couple laps wouldn't be enjoyable. I seen a show one time where a guy got to drive one. He killed it on takeoff like 6 times because he had a hard time understanding that you have to release the clutch at like 10,000 rpm just to take off.. And he spent about 20 laps til he started getting the hang of it. Then he was moving along pretty good, but nowhere near as fast as the real guys do.. I figured with an hour to get used to everything and getting settled in and an hour of enjoying myself and picking up the pace it would be a blast..
Balls.. I have.. You only live once.

If you don't have driving experience, you'll need several days, if not weeks of instruction.
I have a friend with long resume of driving schools, 150+ laps at the Ring, etc- he is scared to drive the IRL.

+1 trey

You should watch Richard Hammond from topgear take one for a spin, Mind you he's no race car driver but even he had a hard time with it, same as Jeremy Clarkson when he took the lotus f1 (like) car out, it's like nothing else you can compare it to.

You have to go very fast just to be able to drive the car around the track or nothing will heat up and it won't work properly, and then by the time you start getting use to it your neck muscles give out and you can't drive it anymore..unless you do alot of exercises to strengthen those muscles.

The guy from Top Gear had a lot of racing experience if I recall correctly and he couldn't really hang with the F1 car. You need to go insanely fast ( like, enough to scare the fuck out of you ) just to get the car up to operating temps then you can go even faster. :scared

+1 I dont thing anyone normal/untrained and not a regular F1 driver could indure it for long. Its not just having the balls to go fast and fast enough to make use of the tires/brakes/downforce. But I hear those cars are a work to drive and will beat the crap out of you. All those G's. Youll need good stamina.

The brakes are no good for stopping unless theyre good and heated and youre not going fast enough. The steering radius isnt all that great so tight turns can be hard at slow speeds. But once youre going fast enough you also have downforce at your aid. The downforce alone is so strong if you lift the gas youll be throne forward by the drag slowing the car.

The down force is also the reason theyre so fast. Imagine all the weight and pressure excerted on those tires and the traction/bite they get from it. But lose the front wing it will almost become a bitch to steer(understeer). Acidentally lose the rear wing and youll be swapping ends in a turn if youre not careful(oversteer machine). Theyre really dependent on downforce for grip.

On a side note about the grooved tires they use to run. People complained about them and they did make the cars look ugly. But tire tech had developed so much by then that the grooved tires had more grip than the full slicks from the 80s/early 90s.

Senna, one of the best drivers in F1.

Imagine drivers like him and Gilles Villeneuve behind the wheel of one of these new F1 cars. They are easier to drive too. It would be amazing.

RIP to both of them.
