I use my 01 SV on the highway a lot, is it ok to run at 5500+ RPM's for extended periods of time? Thanks

sure. i like the ride around near the 6k mark most of the time myself. the sv engine eats it up. you're not even halfway to the redline at that point!

Half way to redline? SV's redline at 10.5K no?

Your fine at 5500.

i think mine is more like 12.5 but i'd have to go look... it's definitely not 10.5k.

the sv makes it's best power between 7-9k if you ask me.

Tach says 10.5...and I got my shift light set for 9.8.

yea you're right it is 10.5, i think looking at the tach on the gixxer so much must have made me more optimistic than the sv's speedo even... lol. :-)

ya the V-twin engine is good for low-mid range power...so i stay around 6k, after 8.5 k there really is not that much power left in the bike so it's always a good idea to keep it in the engine's powerband just in case u need to get out of a sticky situation and need that extra burst...well that's my thought process anyway

How do you like the Gix6 vs the v-twin? I have an 00 SV but am completely in lust with the new gix6 *drool*
I'd love to find someone who'd let me take a turn on one... but I'm not sure that'll happen (i'm a short person LOL)

They're a world of difference...like night and day...I have both as well...I noticed it took a lil while getting used to making the switch from the gix to the sv on the track...I was braking alot earlier than I had to...with later braking you can cary more speed thru the turns with the sv as well.

it is a world of difference, the gixxer is definitely race-bred. i would say the sv/v-twin has more "useable" power in normal street riding but the gixxer definitely makes more ponies and that can be nice too. the (much) more upright seating position on the svs is nice for two-up riding and also commuting to work and such.

i never sorted out the suspension the svs (besides heavier fork oil) so there is no comparision with the gixxer there, it feels like riding on a rail through corners...
