i have a sv650 engine and i need to know how to figure out what year it is

'99-'02 were carbed

As far as I remember, the '99 and '00 are black while the '01 and '02 are gray

nah, i own an '02 and the engine is black. not sure how you can tell what year the engine is but i don't think there are any differences between them until '03 when they got fuel injected? if there are they are most likely minor... i'm not 100% on that though.

can you get the #'s off the cases?
