: help with '97 600 clutch

I recently bought a '97 gsxr 600 race bike and promptly began replacing things. In the process of replacing the clutch plates (from oem to barnett), I discovered that the previous owner left out the two washers that go in before the first friction plate. I figured, ok, it works, so I'll just continue... After putting in all the new plates and installing the basket correctly, I have NO tension at the clutch lever. The adjuster is at near max, so I can't go that route. I assume my problem is that the clutch package is now too thin. Correct? If so, how many of the oem washers should I install to get myself back within spec?
Thanks from a new member,
Andrew

Well first off, Why Barnett?

You shouldnt need the two washers in there for there to be pressure at the lever. Have you tried to adjust your major adjustment on the cable? Have you set the torque on the hub nut correct? Do you have the correct number of plates in the basket?

To tell you the truth, Barnett doesnt make that good of a clutch. The OEM fibers are MUCH better. But that is just my 2 cents worth.

I chose Barnett after speaking with a few FUSA racers who run them. I'm new to racing, so I ran with it...
As to the other questions:
17 plates (friction + drive) came out, and 17 went in, but I did notice that the Barnetts were slightly thinner...
I torqued the hub nut to 150 Nm, per the Suzuki manual.
I have adjusted the twist adjuster at the lever to its maximum, and that doesn't quite do it.
Still confused!!!

this happened to me when i put barnett plates in, what i did was adjust the cable where is goes into the crank case(??) on the left side of the bike. not really sure what the term is but you'll see what im talking about if u take your left plastic off.

also a new clutch cable might help, i replaced mine and the feel is much better

The plates that came out should be a bit thinner... They are used... images/icons/grin.gif

Now... turn your adjuster at the perch back in to at least half way. Then on the left side of your motor, were the cable goes into the case, you should see a adjustment on the cable (major adjuster), adjust that till the slack is out... It is normal for there to be more slack in the calbe with new plates.. images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for the info! By the way, I said the Barnett's were thinner, not the old ones. images/icons/wink.gif
I just ordered a new cable and the washers.

If they are thinner, then You might want to worry about it. They shouldnt be thinner then stock... images/icons/frown.gif This could let them slip...
