: More Tips......
fRaGgLe 01-14-2003, 01:04 PM After riding here in fog this morning....
Fog sucks images/icons/smile.gif Avoid riding in it, unless you wife has taken your car becuase her son wanted to borrow her jeep......
OK - if you find yourself in fog.
1) Slow down
2) use the BACK of you glove to wipe your shield every so often - unlike rain the moisture does not build up and run away.
3) Slow down (did I mention this)
4) High beam sucks in the fog, keep it dipped.
5) Slow down even more.
thats about it - use the back of your glove to wipe your visor because then your palms are not wet, and slippy....
GixieChick 01-15-2003, 08:58 AM This kind of information is also important when riding in rain. I had to ride up to Pocono last year in the rain. It was my first real experience with rain on my bike. We just had to remember to keep it slow, take turns slow, and every so often wipe visor with back of glove or turn head side to side to let rain slide off visor.
gixerking 01-15-2003, 01:18 PM fog graemlins/piss.gif
its even worse when its patchy. going along in this shit they call fog, then you get a glimpse of whats ahead cuz you hit a clear spot and then bamm you cant fuggin see again images/icons/mad.gif
for an experiment get a patch or something in your hand and constantly put it over an eye and take it away. repeat over and over. sucks dont it?
Sneyeper 01-17-2003, 08:01 PM You forgot to mention to keep an eye out for the moron running you over from behind ... I always flash my breaklight by tapping the brake a little.
Fog SUCKS images/icons/mad.gif
GIXXERUK 01-19-2003, 07:52 PM good post graemlins/thumbup.gif
can anyone tell me why bikes dont have fog lights?
at least on the rear images/icons/confused.gif
RUKUS 02-21-2003, 01:20 PM Bikes do not have fog lights for wieght reasons, besides, have you ever used the "fog lights " on the cars now a days. They do next to nothing to help! I try to keep the low beam only on... Then, if I see that a car is coming fomr the rear I will turn my signal fomr left to right and tap the brake. They get the picture. Also, wear refelctive gear!
Morfias 02-22-2003, 05:58 AM fog, rain http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif
i have some gloves with a built in wiper on them ...,
they really come in handy for thouse types of days! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif
mach600 02-25-2003, 07:44 AM Yea fog sucks, got caught here in the mountains in fog and rain once http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
somejeffguy 02-26-2003, 03:54 PM yes, many factory 'fog lights' on production cars are mostly useless - more for show than anything else. the department of transportation, if i remember correctly, does not have beam pattern guidelines for fog lights as it does for low and high beams. so often manufacturers tend to usually just use whatever looks good. aftermarket 'fog lights' tend to be even worse.
this is fairly common knowledge, but don't use your high beams in fog.
also, just slow the f*ck down in fog. some studies have shown that fog distorts your perception of speed - i.e. you think you're going slower than you really are. then what happens is that you subconsciously speed up, because you think you're going too slow. higher speeds + less visibility = potentially more trouble for you.
--Ryan-- 03-03-2003, 09:07 AM Agreed with the slow down part, but my bike does have fog lights for that very reason, and they actually work pretty good too.

properly mounted fog lights are mounted low so that they shine underneath the fog. putting fog lights up high means more of the beam is shining into the fog, not underneath it. (not bashing, just clarifying.)
of course, putting fog lights down low leaves them very susceptible to debris kicked up by other vehicles in front of you, but that's the tradeoff you make.
superbikegsxr6 03-19-2003, 01:38 PM dont forget to mention what ever else ur wering will get wet, so if youre wearing something for ork (slacks, etc) bring an extra set!
Cobra870 05-11-2003, 08:45 PM Also cover the brake and clutch levers, you never know when a cager will appear in front of you. Also watch for wet spots in the road, that much moisture in the air had to be landing somewhere....namely the road, your tires and your brakes.
bobalouie 11-13-2004, 10:15 PM I have pulled over and waited for fog to lift .. Once I waited 4 hours and would have waited another 10 hours. It was thick One of my friends lost his life because he wouldnt get out of it . 18 wheeler got him from behind ..
Fog sucks and then your wet,and cold and going slow getting wetter and colder it sucks.. Then you have to crack your visor open cause thats foging too.... FOG SUCKS!!

Meiiko 06-16-2005, 06:51 AM Good tips!!!! So much to learn :-(
FiReBReTHa 07-14-2005, 06:29 AM Now has any of you bikers tried Rain-x or Fog-x?
I am curious if this could possibly help. stay safe.
20thGSXRBoy 07-15-2005, 01:35 AM Fog definitely sucks!
I left for work one day and weather in my town was amazing. Sunny, warm, not a cloud in the sky. But 3 minutes down the highway, and past any off-ramps and I hit a wall of fog that lasted all the way to work.
I was wet, cold, couldn't see shit and was late to work.
M4SIR 07-15-2005, 03:36 AM I got side swiped by a mini truck 4 weeks ago on a perfectly sunny SoCal day on the freeway. I'm fine, thank goodness to full gear and frame sliders. The cagers behind me stopped just in time. I can't imagine how that idiot girl drives on a foggy day.. sheesh..
MotoGP 07-29-2005, 05:27 PM ... regarding our backsides, in fog, how about the e-flashers? We don't have much fog here in the desert, so I am a bit ignorant, on the matter http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif ... good idea or no???
Comrade_SpuD 08-05-2005, 08:18 AM Patchy fog sucks... haven't met it on the ER yet, but even on a moped it's nasty. The roads get kinda greasy, so you slow down only to be near rear-ended by some pillock in a land rover. then it gets clear, they overtake, it gets foggy again, and some other pillock tries to ram their bumper up yer rectum...
I can't use the back of my glove, it's got knobbly kevlar bits on, I find that the side of an index finger does pretty well, even just to clear a line for my eyes. Snow is pretty shitty too, especially in summer gloves... I'm hoping we don't get that again down here. Losing all feeling to the ends of your arms is hardly useful, but who needs clutch control on a twist n go? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
steedazx5 08-08-2005, 06:49 AM im glad i read this thread didnt ever think to use the back of the glove.
whoever said they have built in washers on there gloves are they serious is it like a strip of rubber like those cheesy car blades.
sadly enough the factory fog lights on my car actually help me out alot.and its a ford focus http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif
Crashing Sucks 09-11-2005, 03:26 AM yea its a challenge
dudeongsxr1k 10-08-2005, 12:18 PM Fog sucks as does rain , i'm in seattle for those of you who know it rains 9 months out of the year and i ride 30 min. to work everyday , good gloves are needed to wipe away moisture and water , i havent gone down in rain yet because while everyone is going 65-70 mph i go 55-60. if its dry then i smash out.
beck26 05-07-2006, 07:00 PM fog does suck, and good poing about the moisture not rolling off your visor.
z0ber 07-14-2006, 06:57 AM I got cought in the worst fog I have ever seen last night. It was half fog half drizzle.
IT SUCKED!!
tsutxn02 07-17-2006, 02:27 PM never ridden in rain or fog, thats gotta be a lil creepy the first time!!
rorym 08-11-2007, 08:43 PM I used to work for Dunlop Racing here in OZ with Warren Willing,Magee, Doohan,Beattie and others...For visor fogging I used that stuff you spray on your fry pan to stop stuff stucking to it..Its a vege based oil..spray on..polish off excess..you will NEVER have a fogging visor again..Old heads..old tricks etc etc Hope that helps...we would KILL for some rain here at the moment!

Principle Carpathia 03-22-2008, 04:55 PM I ride in rain without much problem but Fog is 10 times worse. Slow way,way down and keep alert for stopped traffic. Not fun....
GTABurnout 04-15-2008, 11:26 AM I doubt I will ever see fog let alone ride in it but thanks...
sradtastic 05-25-2008, 12:26 PM my first ride on my 600 was in freezing fog at half 5 in the morning. ouch . i had to ride through country roads for 14 miles with my visor up, when i got to work i had thick frost on my visor, and all over my helmet and leathers. I then got told that the temp was -6 :O wtf i wouldnt have rode if i knew that... but there again i did start to wonder why my back wheel kept twitching.
Deez_Nughts 05-27-2008, 08:09 AM this is my first post here at gixxer but i think this is a good one. Dont put tire shine on your tires ever! Its like riding on ice.
Deez_Nughts 06-05-2008, 06:08 PM i bet it does. never ridin in fog before.
Leftbehind126 08-04-2011, 11:55 PM Anyone that has been in fog, how do you react to cars coming up from behind? Obviously with more caution, but how did one adjust to it.
Move to the side in case they do not stop?
Flash the brake light a few times?
Any tips?
waronreality 09-03-2011, 03:44 PM ill flash my rear brake a couple of times
jfm02silverado 09-04-2011, 09:17 AM i pity the fool
