I have a 98 Gsxr 750 and it seems to be really hard for me to make a smooth shift from first to second. Shifting through all other gears are fine.
Sometimes when I shift I get stuck in neutral and other times it grinds the gears a little. Every once in a while I makes a smooth transaction but not often. Is there something wrong with my tranny or do I just need to learn how to shift better. images/icons/rolleyes.gif
Thanks,

well... first are you using the clutch when you shift? Sencond, do you have the clutch lever adjusted correctly?
When was your last oil change?

Always using the clutch. The clutch should be adjusted properly.., It doesn't slip and shifting in all other gears is smooth. When the clutch is released, there in a very little play in the lever. I have about 700 miles since last oil change. The bike only has 3100 miles on it. I bought it with 2400 and changed the oil when I bought it.
Thanks,

So how much free play do you have in the handle when the clutch is out? At the perch (at the pivot point), how much room do you have between the handle and the perch? You should have about 1/8 inch there... If you have more then that, readjust it. Then if you still have problems, try to lower your shift pedal. If it keeps up after that then you might need tranny work...

I'm not sure exactly but I'm pretty sure the play is less than 1/8" If I remember correctly I adjusted it so a penny will slide into the free play between the lever and perch (real hi-tech huh?)
I will try to lower the shift lever and see what happens.
I don't like the sound of "Need tranny work"
Thanks,

Maybe twp pennys worth... lol What will happen is as the clutch gets hot and the plates expand, it is going to pull to thight and you might get some slip... If you drag race i would run even more slack...
To give you a starting point, the toe piece of the shift lever should cover the connecting rod. does that make sence? lol It kinda does to me and i know what I am trying to explain... lol
Anyhow... sometimes what happens is since you have to pull up farther from 1 to 2 then you do on the rest, you foot wont move that far and you get "hard" shifting... Or a miss shift a lot...
If it doesnt fix it let me know... images/icons/frown.gif

Thanks John,
I'll adjust the clutch and take a look at the shift lever. I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks again,
Brian
