: Yosh Slip on vs. Full Sys Help
BigBro007 04-02-2002, 07:33 AM I need some mad help. I bought my first bike ('98 750) in Feb and received a 2nd full set of plastics w/ tank, my orig factory exhaust, a yosh exhaust (carbon), and a yosh TI RS-3 exhaust that is currently on there. Also, the guy sent me a header pipe that has a small dent in one of the ends that (I belive) goes under the bike. I took the pipe to a bike place here in houston and they weren't sure what type of system it was but the guy said possibly muzzi and maybe yosh. Well, my big problem is that my current can is a bolt on where are this header I got looks to be made for a slip on or spring can(?). I really need a crash course in exhaust systems vs. bolt-on's or slip-on's. Do I need to sell my cans and get one for a full system? Plus, if I finally get this header on or buy a full system from someone, is the gain really noticable for the price? Help!
spongebob 04-02-2002, 08:44 AM no.........the couple of pounds youll lose and the horse power is minamal..but it looks nice and the sound will be different..i have a full race system on my bike..i like the looks..but you wont "feel" any difference..what ever you gain by putting on a full exhaust, you can lose by putting on a k&n on YOUR bike..beware...

You WILL feel the difference with a full system and a K&N. But to really get the power from it, you need have the Fi remapped... or get a PCII for your bike. I put the pipe on and a K&N and i felt a big change. Much nicer. After I got the Yosh Black Box remap, it really made it run smooth, then got my PCII and it is even better.
You loose a lot of wieght going to a full system from teh stock headers. That is part of the power gain you feel is that you lost about 10lbs off the bike.
If you can get some pics of the headers that you have, someone might be able to pick it out. but it will be hard as most headers dont have to much for markings on them.

Adrian 04-02-2002, 11:16 AM Yes I have to disagree also..
As soon as we got my Yosh rs3 race exhaust on, I took out down the road and I first noticed that it had way better response, which felt like instant torque to me down low. I don't have a jet kit yet so that is what is hurting me up high, but it sounds like you have enough parts to peice together a full system!
You won't be sorry!
Also, my buddy just got a 2 Bros slip on his 01 Gix 600, and didn't notice nearly as much improvement as I did.
spongebob 04-02-2002, 12:11 PM the exhaust will give you a gain of between 0 and 10 horsepower..(i have the 1999 issue of sportrider, which tests all the exhaust on a 99 gsx-r750)
i stuck my exhaust on almost immediatly, so the difference in the "feel" wasnt notable to me..
but in the test it says between 40-130 mph there was between .20 second and 2.20 seconds quicker times.so i stand corrected..
BUT the k&n filter(at least on a 98 gsx-r750) will cost you between 3-5 horsepower...this is according to the two tuners that tuned my bike..
i know this will piss off the guys that have the filters in their bikes, but no more than me, my filter now sits in its original box on a shelf in my garage..both tuners told me the stock filter was the hot tip..
ever notice theres no testing done in ANY of the sportbike magazines on the k&n???
BigBro007 04-02-2002, 03:30 PM Thanks for all of the replies! Now, if I am to switch over to a full yosh system, do I need to sell my 3 exhausts and this header pipe I have for all new equip or can I possibly get the small dent out of the header pipe and use it with my TI RS-3 pipe? I ask because the can is a bolt-on and the header pipe that the guy gave me looks like it uses springs or something. There are no bolt on places off of the header pipe. Actually, there is a second pipe along with that header that is attached to it which has the end that looks like it uses springs. How much should I be looking to spend? As you can tell, I am in my learning stages.
Ps. The header that I have looks like it was previously wrapped so I think it may be a good pipe or at least "was" a good pipe.
GSXR-Freak 04-02-2002, 03:39 PM Most tuners say not to run the K&N because it gets toooo much air... you have to really play with it to get it right. But if you have the correct stuff to tune the bike (PCII) you should be able to get enough fuel from it. If all you are doing is remapping the stock computer (Yosh Box), then yes the K&N will probably make you loose power.

If you are unsure, maybe your dealer can help you out. But it doesnt sound to good... images/icons/frown.gif

Trainer 04-24-2006, 04:57 PM I hope this will still be on subject. I just bought a bolt on RS3 yosh carbon fiber oval for my 99 SRAD. I was wondering if I will need to remap it. The last time Changed the exhaust was on a carb bike and you didn' t need to jet the bike with a bolt on. Thanks for any help you can send.
spongebob 05-09-2006, 11:27 PM WOW, you went way back for this post...doOd, my 98/750 is stock except for a full yoshimura race exhaust..my scooter ran fine(turned a 10.51 in the 1/4 mile)..then i stuck a power commander in it...i dont think i could beat that time, but the bike is much smoother now..
