Due to my age I'm restricted to 33bhp for 2 years but I want a 97/98 GSXR600. When restricted the revs are restricted to 6000rpm. What a GSXR600's like to ride under 6000rpm?

Thanks

ermmmm well i can tell you its nuthin like riding when its up at about 10K rev's images/icons/wink.gif seriously though...it is fine so long as she is in good working order and you will still be haulin ass alot better than the smaller bikes but i seriously dont know how you will be able to contain yourself....

how do they restrict the amount of rev's you give your bike?

There's a washer fitted to the carbs or exhaust so it doesn't rev higher that 6000rpm.

My 97 GSXR600 runs shit below 6000rpm. It's enjoyable above 6000rpm.

A good analogy to describe the experience of riding below 6000rpm, due to restriction, is that it's like going thru foreplay, and having no sex images/icons/frown.gif

If i were u, get a smaller capacity m\c, so u can rev it higher. Plus, it'll be lighter, which is always an advantage for learning. Also, cheaper rego, insurance, parts, fuel, etcetc

They've got 400's and 250's in Uk right ?? I think there's a bloke here on a GSXR400 who's from the UK.

Good luck mate. images/icons/smile.gif

Ps: In AUST., we have the same restriction for Learners and P platers. It's 250cc for 4 stroke, 125\150cc for 2 strokes.

I learnt on a CBR250, it was a fun bike images/icons/smile.gif

I wished i learnt on a pocketbike when i was little images/icons/grin.gif

I've been riding for 2 years on an Aprilia RS50. KaTz, is that a RS125 in your sig pic? How much slower is it than the GXSR?

Hehehe, comparing the RS125 to a 600 is a bit unfair.... in terms of torque and hp.

The RS is much lighter and will eat the GSXR in the twisties. I go into and thru the same corners much faster on the RS125, but when u put the power down, the GSXR has the advantage. As u would expect from a 93hp machine.

RS's are great fun on the track and in the twisties. But 2 strokes are a bitch to ride in traffic. As u know, there's shit all torque below 9000rpm.

And the handling of the Aprilia is 2nd to none. Ive yet to ride a better handling bike. But to be fair, it's only 130kg wet, comparing to 180-190kg for the average GSXR600, depending on yr.

Well you will be missing out on a lot of fun and also, the price of a GSXR600 reflects a Horsepower output three times than what you are allowed...I'm sure that the safety laws are in place for a reason though....You are probably better served to spend the money (and save a lot)on a lower displacement bike? 250 or 400? I understand that in the UK there is a larger selection of sport bikes in those CC's than we do have here in the states...

Good Luck.....

I passed my test before the days of the 33bhp restriction but grew up with 125cc bikes restricted to 12hp. The first thing you did was derestrict them, then tuned them, then blew them up images/icons/grin.gif

If you're dead set on a GSXR600, I'd get it officially restricted (I think you need of certificate), then accidentally de-restricted during some routine maintenance once you're ready for the power hike.

what would the top speed be at 6000rpm?

NotoriousREV

from memory it's something like 68mph, but I could be wrong.

I though most of the derestriction kits didn;t limit revs, just power?

You cant be serious, mine is shit up to about 8000 personally id go for something like the RS125 then you can learn to really handle a bike. I wouldnt go for derestriction on a 600 in your situation because of those bastard speed cameras, one flash at about 100 and they could start asking questions. And even in two years after your ban you wont be able to insure a dt50 never mind a gixxer. Just my 2 pence worth.

A gixxer under 6000 rpm? don't do that. Get a smaller bike and perfect your cornering, something like an Aprilia 125 or Honda NSR125. A gixxer would be too heavey to be comfortable at that kind of speed and shit all revs. A gixxer is a gixxer only between 10000 and 13000 revs, below that its just a delicate, uncomfortable, motorcycle with reliability problems and poor build quality. If you can keep it up for long durations only then can you enjoy a gixxer!!! What would your Yoshi can sound like @ 6000rpm??

What are the revs restricted to running in a GSXR600?

Reliability problems? Am I missing something? Poor build quality? Compared to what?

Just feel a little lost, since mine is a reliable bike so far.

Oh, I guess some people do have that little cam chain tensioner problem.

hey Ragman u from southampton? I know someone with a RS50 who wants a GSXR600 but has gotta have it restricted to 33hp. It will suck ass though on the new one thats when it starts to pull hard. It will still rev through all way in first and second just slowly. Bike will still do 100mph my 400 did when it was restricted just took a while to get there will do 80-85 easily though. U be better gettin off a 400 though coz u gonna be stung big stylie for insurance as they will charge u full whack even though it is restricted. I had a 400 and just pulled the kit out. I got stopped, for speeding, but luckily the cops were not up on bikes they said thats a big bike for in my restriction period, i said its only a little 400 showed em sticker they went oh ok then images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif then let me off images/icons/grin.gif

Just get a grey import GSXr400

Way more fun, sound like a horrible waste of a 600, and you will learn way more on a smaller/lighter bike too

just my .02 worth - I only passed my bike test in September last year (i'm 24), and got a 2k 600 as my first bike. done over 8k miles now, throughout the winter(!). Now spring is here, I'm far more competent for it. Power wise, I went through a faze of wanting more, but I've decided to stick to the 600 due to insurance mainly. Also, I feel I can be just a quick as someone on a bigger bike - all I gotta do is ride better... images/icons/tongue.gif

Smaller sometimes really can be better - if you're under 21, get a 400. You may sell it the day you're 21, and think it's underpowered within a year, but you'll be grateful you got it when you get in the 600 (or whatever) at 21 for the experience it gave you.

Whatever happens, enjoy it, and use it to build on your experience.

Just curious,
What % of "power restricted" riders actually follow those restrictions and don't remove the restrictor?
Also, do they check often and make sure it's there, or make your bike go in for an inspection every few months?

I know over here if they had that restriction rule for newer riders that 95% of them would remove it unless they were pretty much forced to have it by way of many inspections. Even then lots would just do the work before inspection time to put it back in there probably.

the Gixxer is all about top end power ...always was and always will be !!!! Buy a Twin !!! work great below 6000.
