I'm in the market for an SV650 to race, and was wondering if the current gen bikes are that much better than the older ones, and if they are worth an extra $1k - $2k?
Also, for mounting race bodywork, gauges, suspension, etc, is it harder to convert a regular model versus an "s"? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

to answer your question yes they are better, they are fuel injected and lighter. as far as mounting bodywork, it doesn't make a shit of a difference it it's an s or not.

The fuel injection on the '03-'04 models makes tuning a lot easier and they put out more HP stock. There are claims that the new frame is stiffer.
The Pre '02 models require changing the fork caps to get pre-load adjusters.
If you are going to get one, get an S model. The gear box has a closer ratio, shorter swing arm and a higher subframe (at least the '03 model has a different subframe). You can also save a little money right off the bat by not having to buy clip-ons and a fairing stay.
There are a lot of parts that interchange between all year SVs, and everyone makes race glass for the SV now.
