Who has had success reformatting their hard drives and how did you do?
Are you able to keep any software you want or have to reinstall everything again?
Any help is greatly appreciated! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

All you have to do is put the OS cd in and restart the computer. It should boot up the cd and you will go through a routine of formating and then installing. My suggestion is that when you format, create two partitions. One will have your operating system installed on it and the other will act as a storage drive, so you can save anything u want on there and don't have to worry about losing it if windows crashes for whatever reason. If you need anymore specifics let me know. And oh yes you will need to reinstall everything after windows is reinstalled

If its a dell or gateway, compaq, hp or another name brand it probally came with recovery cd's that will format and load the OS. Just check to see what came with the computer. Let me know if you need anything else explained

OR you can go out and buy a copy of Xp home <<< decent OS not the best but decent ) for like 80 bucks and not deal with all the other crap software being installed from OEM recovery CD's that are bundled with D(h)ells or Gateways or the like.

You can google, "how to format your PC" and print out the steps then have at it

On a side note, if cost is an issue, and you do have the recovery CD, use it, just make sure to update quickly b4 browsing and type this to stop the annoying blaster worm from shutting your PC down and caussing you countless headaches...

after reinstall of the OS, click start, run, type in shutdown -a then click ok, all this does is eliminate the blaster worm from remotely shutting down your machine, go about updating your rig, and enjoy

After you get your machine updated and all your programs installed, get norton ghost and make an image that you can reinstall if you have any probs later on.
