That was one of the few issues I found was the IMS seal & bearing failure. Seemed like a lot of different opinions on why, some low mileage cars had it, some high mileage did not. I know there are some updated parts out for this.

Thanks, been checking out different sites, have not seen this one. 6speed seemed like a good site also, I've been lurking in there for a bit. Love this quote from the Renntrack site.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,
Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

this may or may not be helpful, but you are still going to be paying to service the car like it was bought brand new.
bring lube!

That's why I'm taking a little extra time to look into it. I had someone strongly reccommend a GT3 over the Turbo. I made the mistake of test driving one & it really made my weeny tingle. Not too many GT3's around. From what I have found so far it seems the turbo is really reliable.

Only thing that hasnt been recommended I would do is upgrade or swap cooling fans. I lived in vegas where its hot and have had about 20 turbo vehicles. As well as service experience in the Porsche, Ferrari, Bentley, and Lambo market. I have driven a GT3 as well as a porsche cup car. GT3's are definately nice, but I like the capabilities of the turbo as well as reliability. Got to remember engine is stressed only when in boost. GT3 you have to wind it up and stay in rev to get power. But to each his own as you can tell by my username Im a turbo man. Its really user preference they are both great rides. You looking for open road or in town driving? I would upgrade rad fans and install a nice oil cooler and go for the turbo. But thats about all I can think of other then the above.

ive no idea, but ive driven an 996 turbo (tiptronic), and a stick shift 996 gt3, and the gt3 felt great, but im sure being stick made it more enjoyable
also, i dont recall the gt3 having a rear seat, but the turbo had something resembling a seat for people with no legs

To use 90% for fun in the twisties & some SCCA Solo2 & a very occasional track day. I was blown away by the bottom end & mid with the turbo. I haven't driven a GT3 yet.

Sounds to me a Gt3 may be preferred here. But with right work to the turbo if your looking to do work to it would kck ass also. Depends if you are planning to keep it stock or wanting to put some work into it. With the proper setup the turbo can be very efficient in the twisties with boost coming on progressive it help also with traction. You are right the bottom end and mid will suprise you proper boost controller, small fuel upgrades, valve springs, and good tune the turbos are AMAZING. Honestly out run most GT3's that are modded. You have to poor more into initial modified N/A setups and uptake compared to minor safety parts needed for turbo setup upping boost and letting it rock!! But once again im a turbo fan. Any specific questions I can help with let me know. My ex girlfriend is service director of a Porsche dealership if I dont know it she will.
