I just read this over at the 96-99 forum: http://www.gixxer.com/ubbthreads/showfla...;o=&fpart=1 (http://www.gixxer.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=54329&page=0&view=collaps ed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1)

Does this go for the oil cooled bikes as well? Specifically a 86 1100 GSXR.

My motor makes noise at idle. Like chain noise. It's not the carbs! And it stops when your riding or above idle.

Is it possible that having a loose cam chain or bad cam chain tensioner will cause me major problems??

At the top he says it is Only for 96-99...but later says all gsxr's. Soooo?

My real quesiton is my bike safe to ride like this for another month before I can fix it?

Does the 86 1100 also have the possibility of jumping the timing or having the cam chain tensioner bolts back out.

I just had my tensioner out. Atleast the part that unbolts from the rear side of the engine. The manual said to push it in and if it doesn't come back out then it is not bad. So I put it back in. In the reset position.

Would it be safe to ride my bike like this?

No garuntees...

but the oil-cooled motors typically make a lot of top-end clatter noises... if your cam-chain tensioner is good, and you don't have over 60K miles on the motor, then it's probably nothing to worry about...

...but ANY motor with more than about 9:1 compression is at-risk for major top-end damage if you break and/or slip timing on the cam-chain.

Thanks....I decided to go ahead and order one now and get it on next week just to be on the safe side.
