: engine question. water in oil
holav 04-07-2011, 02:28 PM I am trying to fix a gsxr 100 k3. the whole radiator coolant endet up in the engine oil :)
When i took of the cams i could see four smal "disches" laying around in the top. There are four holes beside the valves. inn intake side. The dishes are ment to be in these holes. What are they, and what has happend. when i look down in them, they seems to lead to the water conection on the top, below the fuel rail. Olav
Lean With It 04-07-2011, 02:33 PM freeze plugs. Put them back.
drain oil
flush system
fill coolant
fill oil w/ new filter
start bike
drain oil change filter
fill oil w/ filter
ride
(as long as there is no engine damage)

Thanx man. Do i just hammer them down inn?
Lean With It 04-07-2011, 02:36 PM I suggest you get a service manual. They are free download from the user Chocolate_Rain, listed in his sig.
holav 04-07-2011, 02:39 PM i have it, but could not find annything about the plugs. The problem was that the "fork" on the waterpump broke. so the pump didnt run. it got warm and went into a emergency program. the bike only ran for 10 minutes before the fi light came on. The bike starts fine and runs nice. hope the top is ok. just gonna try putting them inn and flush it.
Lean With It 04-07-2011, 02:47 PM so it overheated and popped the freeze plugs? you have ran the motor after the plugs came out?
holav 04-07-2011, 02:52 PM yes. it happend on a track, and had to drive in to pit lane. but o i just tapp them back inn or do i need new ones?
Lean With It 04-07-2011, 02:57 PM damn
since it's a track bike, I'd get new ones.
holav 04-07-2011, 02:59 PM alright. thank you very much
Zippysport 04-07-2011, 03:27 PM Really? That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Wouldn't it just start spitting water on the ground if it overheats? And if a freeze plug blew from overheating, wouldn't it just be one? After you blew one, there would be no more pressure in the cooling jacket, right?
I think something else happened. You can tell me if I'm on target.
Here's the scenario:
You left water in it over the winter. It popped all the freeze plugs and broke the water pump shaft fork due to freezing water in the motor. You brought it out on the track, not realizing that this had happened. It then overheated as the water and oil mixed, and the cooling system could not hold any pressure. You then investigated and found all that crap to fix.
What do you think about my idea?

That could probably be right. It is not my bike, but i have to fix it. i would gues you are spot on. annything else i should check. mabe check the head gasket??
Zippysport 04-07-2011, 03:56 PM I'd just do the freeze plugs, and the water pump. Then run enough cheap oil through it to get the water out. I had the freeze plugs pop for that same reason in my 2007 750, and it took at least 4 oil changes to clean it up. It survived and runs great, by the way, though I never overheated it. I reused my freeze plugs since I could not get any from the dealer, nor from any auto parts store. The did not have the exact same size. I've run that bike on the track without problems several times since.
The head gasket is probably fine. I would just do the other parts, and see where you are at after that.

Thanx. I will do that. Let you now how it goes :)
BillV 04-07-2011, 10:11 PM the "fork" on the waterpump brokeI assume that he's talking about the end of the drive shaft. Is the shaft available anywhere or is a new pump required?
