: K&N worth the $$$$$ on 98 750
1HotSevenFive0 07-25-2001, 08:17 PM What's goin on guys. I got bout 4,500 on my bike and was thinkin of dropping a K&N in but have heard both + and neg things bout it. All i have right now is a D&D slip on. Will I benefit much if at all from one? Thanks
Kevin
bmfgsxr 07-25-2001, 10:57 PM sure it is worth it. even if you didnt get any hp gains from it it is guaranteed for life so youll never have to buy another filter for that bike again. and you should get gains also especially if you have a pipe.
99 Gix 750 07-26-2001, 12:32 AM Yes of course get it. And what negitive things did you hear about it? Its the best you can get so you cant go wrong. Who ever said bad things about it has something wrong with them. There are only positive things.
Bostitch 07-26-2001, 02:10 AM 1hot: If you do get the filter I suggest putting some type of shim in there so the filter doesn't rattle around in the air box because it's not that that tight of fit! It might let particals though. That is the only thing I heard about K&N That needs adjustment. Aside from that......
bmfgsxr 07-26-2001, 06:28 PM ive heard that too but mine sits fine so im not sure what year might have had the problem.
Leonardo629 07-26-2001, 08:43 PM about the sitting of the air filter....I used to think the air filter would rattle in the airbox as well...but if you take off the lid of the airbox and exam the bottom side....it is fabricated so it kinda pushes and applies pressure on top of the air filter,so the air filer stay firmly sealed in your airbox...but you can always get that sealing grease from K&N to prevent any leaks....
desert rat 07-28-2001, 12:22 PM dyno'd endurance bike with OEM, a UNI, and a K&N....OEM won, although by scant amount and who can tell if it's temp. diff, air flow, etc...problem with OEM is expense. problem with K&N is care-if oiled too much, horsepower robbing! for what my opinion's worth!!!!
Ricerockt 08-01-2001, 04:06 PM I don't know about the power, but the ease of cleaning is enough reason for me to buy it
gixeruk 08-02-2001, 04:37 PM This rattling problem that is mentioned, you are fitting the foam oval that comes supplied with the k&n aren't you? Mines fine with this in and i cant fault the performance!
99 Gix 750 08-02-2001, 06:04 PM Over oiling a K&N? The filter comes with instructions. It says just make sure the pleats turn red. No white spots. If you over oil the filter, your a jackass and shouldnt even have a bike. And as for the additional foam, mine never came with it. Must be for certain years only. And my filter fits very snug and tight.
1Kdude 08-02-2001, 10:25 PM Ditto the above, my K&N rattled inside my 97 600 airbox, I took off the box and shook it a bit to see if it was loose (it was), because I found little stones near the carb intakes which should not have gotten there, ugh. I use 2 of the foam spacers and its ok now. images/icons/wink.gif
Hatchman 11-22-2002, 06:44 AM Ditto on the little stones in the airbox. That just means they were too heavy to get sucked down the carbs, so no telling what sand/grit went down. I'll put some extra foam on there to seal it up. It is a K&N, BTW. I also agree with the too much oil will rob power, I've seen it happen. Yes, I'm a dumbass.
spongebob 11-22-2002, 09:21 AM the k&n is good for only one thing and thats that you can clean it..theres no horsepower gains with it, and i dont care what a friend of a friend has told you about there being a performance gain..there isnt any..i had a k&n on my 98/750 and went back to a stock filter..suzuki says to blow out the stock filter every 4000 miles and replace after 7500 miles..id rather do this than fuck around wondering if ive added the right amount of oil to the k&n..also i dont appreciate their lieing about their filters...horsepower right out of the box...thats bull shit.. images/icons/mad.gif
GSXR-Freak 11-22-2002, 09:51 AM Hey bob... Why dont you drop the "Power right out of the box" thing... Im not trying to be rude, but we have gone over that so many times... They only need it to add power to ONE motor, and then they can claim it adds power right out of the box.
There have been dyno sheets posted with back to back runs and the K&N lost like .5hp so the difference could be a change in motor temp.

Gruebane 11-22-2002, 10:05 AM Get the K&N ,even if there is no hp gains ,there will be savings!!!
spongebob 11-22-2002, 10:14 PM hey freak, ill drop it when they quit saying it!!
if some guy is asking about the filter, im gona give my 2cents to each post that ask's.(if their asking , they dont know)
i dont know of another manufacture of anything that gets away with what k&n does. images/icons/mad.gif
and as of late, k&n has been putting a very small diclaimer in their ad's that say it dosnt give HP to every application....something they should have done from the git-go.. images/icons/shocked.gif

GSXR-Freak 11-25-2002, 10:54 AM Yea but all you need to say is that there is not a power gain with just a K&N drop in on our bikes... images/icons/smile.gif

hydroperoxide 05-25-2004, 05:02 PM My stock air filter was dirty and I decided to go with a K and N filter. I noticed a bog at 4500rpm with a quarter throttle. I hated it so much that I bought a factory air filter to put in it. My bike Is all stock and I think It might have improved upper rpm power but was not worth the low rpm bog.
hydroperoxide 05-25-2004, 05:03 PM I have a 97 750 btw I dont know what hapens on a fuel injected model though.
