Im new to this site, this is my first post!! Little about myself, My names TC, im from Vegas, and run a custom car shop here in town... Picked up a 03 gsxr 1k from a buddy that needed some work (was stunted before, but still in good overall shape)...

Anyways... I picked up a set of never installed, painted, hotbodies race glass because the plastics on it were cut up for 12 o clock bar and cage... Since i'll mostly be street riding i did some cutting for the headlight, tail light, and front turn signals.. Everything lined up decent up front...

Now im on the tail section.. The kit i have doesnt use the factory seat on the rear tail section...

My Question is, are most of you guys cutting up the factory seat and running it underneath the glass? Or just using the foam or plastic seat pan underneath it? From the mounting holes that mount where the seat would bolt in, there's about a 2-3in gap from the "seat" area on new glass to the top of the subframe rails.. I doubt the glass will hold up at all with 180lbs on it secured by two bolts in that fron area... tried installing the tail over the factory seat but is about an inch off from clearing and those bolts lining up...

Kinda at a stand still right now, would like to get this beast back together soon!! Just looking to see what you guys have done with the rear tail and looking for suggestions/tips...

Thanks a bunch!! Im sure ill become a regular on this forum now !!

Its probably just me but im having trouble visualizing all your issues. Include pics of your new and old parts and a picture of what you are explaining would make this process quicker and easier. Welcome to the site :cheers

thanks for the help bud! I called hotbodies yesterday, apparently the style tail i have is one of the first versions they made for that bike and they did sell/include a "box" support with the tail.. however, unfortunately they no longer have these supports anymore since they havent made them in such a long time.

I actually ended up fabbin my own box out of sheet metal that attatches to the subframe. cut up some thick diamond plate, bent it up, and riveted it all together..wrapped a few layers of 1/4 in foam tape over the entire thing to avoid vibration and add a llittle padding to the seating area.. turned out slick, i'll post pics of it all done...
