: Quick question on blown speakers

I have a quick question. If one speaker is blown will it have an effect on the other speakers as they are in the same circuitry?

If I turn the speakers 1/2 way all of them distort. If If I turn the speakers to only fronts I can turn it all the way up without probs. If I turn it all the way rear it starts to act up and distort. But the minute I go back to balanced front/rear it sounds like shit if you turn it up to about 1/2.... Another thing it's mainly with treble songs as well.

So do you think the rear speakers being possibly blown would negatively affect everything?

Are you sure the speaker is blown? Might be a short somewhere causing it to sound blown, and that is why everything else is distorted.

It shouldn't be anything major right? I left the stock deck llike my other vehicles as it is good enough for me and burglars assholes won't see anything too "shiny" worth stealing.

I've never seen a blown speaker cause the others to go bad, and I've never seen a short cause the others to go bad. Just makes for a crappy sound.

What kind of vehicle is it? It's really not hard to determine if the one speaker is blown, or if it is a short.

It's an altima...

Well I disconnected the suspect speakers and nope still static like.

If it is a short is there some sort of diagnostic that could pinpoint the problem area at the stereo shop? I'm not trying to have them rewire the whole car and be charged a ton...

The car has never been altered stereo wise and not sure what the problem could be. I thought maybe a bad connection on the back of the deck with a wire that is not plugged in tight. But again, only starts to distort after the 1/2 way mark and esp songs with high treble so it's not a lack of not enough power I assume...

Shorts can be a bitch normally to find in general but with a stereo is it fairly simple?

I kept thinking you put an aftermarket cd player in. I was going to say put the factory unit back in and see if it still distorts, but you are still using the factory so thats not an option.

I would ask a local shop if they think the head unit would be at fault first. factory units can act funny sometimes and fry themselves.

As far as the wiring, if you are good with wiring then it is easy to fix a shorted speaker wire. What I typically do is run a set of wires from the head unit to the speakers. Just let them lay over the seats for now, all you are doing is testing for now. One speaker at a time, disconnect them from the factory wiring, and use the wires you ran. You would have to tap into the factory harness this way though (easier when you have an aftermarket head unit). All this is doing is bypassing the factory wiring with known good wiring. This way you can find which wires are shorted out. Since you suspect the rears to the problem, its pretty easy to tuck new wires under the trim.

Cool shit man.

Hey man, I brought it to the shop that did the work and the guy connected the hi/low converter to the two rear speakers. I have always seen my other trucks with 1 speaker. Well, after an hour of talking about bullshit I went to the owner and he stated he thought the employee was working on it.

The employee now unlazy started swapping and the shit works.

No probs.

Now, where to start....

I don't care about being the loudest guy in the neighborhood esp with this car.

So if I replace all the speakers in the car ( dash trebles, doors speakers and the two in the rear) with the stock deck they'll never blow and at the same time play at deck capacity. Or go deck and no stock speaker but then I can hook up the sub rca on the rear instead of a hi/low converter.

Just trying to go after the best for the least. In all honesty, I don't need to out play the city. The stock speakers with my subs are cool enough. It's just they max out earlier than I'd like. No distortion just won't go any louder.

Thanks bro!!!!!!

It works...

The jackass instead of running the hi/low converter to one speaker he ran it to both the reaar speakers.

He took it off one speaker after explaining every truck since 2004 was done to one speak. he did it and it now works.

Thanks man!!!!

well if you under power your speakers you can cause just as much if not more damage to your speakers. do you have the bose package in the altima?
