: How often with full-synthetic oil
CaliManDan600 01-08-2011, 01:45 PM Hey guys, just wondering how often should one be changing the oil and filter when using full-synthetic motor oil? I've seen a lot of threads on here saying to change the oil and filter every 2,000 miles but I figured with full-synthetic you can go longer without changing. So is there a limit amount of mileage that I shouldn't exceed before changing my oil? I was thinking 3,000 miles would be acceptable with full-syn.
MAD_ARAB 01-08-2011, 01:48 PM I change mine every 3k miles or after 2 trackdays. 93k miles so i've already done about 30 oil changes.:cheers

3000 is perfectly fine.
The reason you can't necessarily apply the same rules to changing oil in a motorcycle as you do in a car is that the engine and tranny all share the same oil in the motorcycle. So there's alot more components to pollute the oil with.

+1................Amsoil.
Tha_Buttmonkey 01-09-2011, 05:50 PM ONe of the benefits of running full synthetic are the properties when it breaks down in your engine. The polymers in the oil coat the engine. Depending on what type of riding your doing I would change it every 2K. If you only do track days/racing... every time you do the track time. I stopped using full synthetic a long time ago tho. Too expensive for what I use it for
EdWood 01-12-2011, 08:43 PM For street riding, a good full synthetic oil can easily go 4-5k miles.
Get a used oil analysis to be sure.
Ride Naked 03-14-2011, 01:57 PM Stupid question from a newb...... will any full synthetic work or does it have to be MOTORCYCLE synthetic? Reason I ask is I'm about to do my first moto oil change ever and I have no phucking clue, lol

Ride Naked 03-14-2011, 06:21 PM Ok, where do you guys purchase yours at? the none of the auto parts stores nearby have a good variety of motorcycle oil.

Ride Naked 03-14-2011, 06:41 PM Ok thanx a lot bro, i'l search it out tomorrow after work. I've got to get this bike on the road and I've got quite a lot of work to do to it.

NinJa_FLiP 03-14-2011, 09:23 PM the walmart supercenter here carries castrol and mobil1 full synthetic motorcycle oil.. but i get my amsoil at the dealership..
fidelcastrol 09-22-2011, 09:41 PM I found that I can get Amsoil cheaper than Mobil 1 around here.
SPL170db 09-22-2011, 09:53 PM This is still cheaper from Wallyworld, and I've been running it in my track/racebikes for over a year now. Makes the more frequent changes more economical.

jahlov420 09-22-2011, 11:44 PM i only ride street and i've always done it at 3k. on both bikes i've owned i've probably done 6 or so. 3k is a safe bet
Saintcross 11-02-2011, 11:08 AM I use to work for a distributor of Rotella oil and I tell you right now that there is nothing wrong with that oil, in fact if you have ever had your oil changed at a shop< its probably the rotella they used. Its a bulk oil. Its good stuff for a cheap oil.
Nichin 11-02-2011, 01:00 PM how often do you change your filter? every time or every other?
I have to disagree that having the wet clutch and transmission decrease oil life. Oil does 3 things, lube, absorb moisture, absorb carbon and dust. The lubrication properties of 4 quarts of full synthetic could last 100k. This is why car manuals transmissions are lifetime fluids. Sometimes they are 100k and that is because they don't get hot enough to burn out the moisture. In an engine this is not a problem. However in an engine your sucking in air that is only filtered 95%-99% and burning fuel which creates other particles. This is usually the limiting factor as bikes are usually 15-20 time more polluting (per horse power). If you had an O2 sensor, a good air filter(not free flowing) and drove the bike rather conservatively you could probably get 15k out of your synthetic.

DemonRR 12-07-2011, 04:12 AM Are you a medical marijuana card carrying member?!?
no, but I am. :D
generally in AUTO's and while running ams oil full symthetic AND ams oils oil filter, you can go 12,000 miles or up to 1 yr before oil changes. been doing this way for 5 yrs now. i do run ams oil in my bike(s) along wiht an OEM filter, but change the oil/filter every 3000 miles or before my off season slumber.
Gsxr750does183 12-24-2011, 03:50 PM I used the Suzuki synthetic for the first 3k, now I only use motul 300v I've got 25k on my 09 750. The oil is pricey but hey I gotta give my baby what's best since I abuse her so bad. I do my oil changes every 3k that's pushing it so do it every 2700-3250 just being safe and nice to the bike
Sleeper_750 01-16-2012, 12:30 PM no, but I am. :D

I do this in my truck, using Mobile one - just change the filter every 2-3k or so, then top it off.. usually when the fully synthentic turns black or dark dark brown its time for a full change.
Bike I keep on a much shorter schedule
berto696 04-05-2012, 03:30 AM what oil should i use to prevent clutch from slipping?
a.leopard 04-05-2012, 05:18 AM what oil should i use to prevent clutch from slipping?

berto696 04-05-2012, 08:45 PM so any 10/15 w40 oil will do.. btw, im having this tachometer problem, i think it cuts down around 12k rpm then wont raise up... im thinking about a dash problem, slipping clutch or need to replace the sensors... wat do u guys think? im currently using a gsxr 600 k7 with 16700 km on it
