If you install an after-market Ignition Advancer... do you also need to load higher octane fuel (i.e. 89 or 91 r+m/2 octane)?

As far as advancers go what kind of changes or improvements is this going to bring about? Will it bring on some more power in the midrange? Also I see two kits from yosh a +2 and a +4 which is advisable? I will probably never see the track, maybe a few times. Mostly street riding and so on. Is this mod advisable in that case?

I would higher octane fuel if u plan on advancing u'r timing. Since the spark will occur earlier before TDC, flame propogation will occur earlier and if not careful knock may occur if the flame does not travel quick enough to combust all the fuel/air. Since as the piston will travel towards TDC, more pressure will occur and thus increase temperature which may cause auto-ignition.... point being. i recommend higher octane

The answer is NO ... I have run an advancer on two bike thus far. It make s it idle tough and pull a bit better down low. Thats it. Put it on and forget about it.

One more bit of info that might help ... follow the directions and get new gaskets. Do not break the magnet .... Do not break the magnet ... Darn, I said that twice. The other thing is set the gap between the magnet and the key on the wheel like the directions say or it wont run ... set the gap ... set the gap. Darn it, I said that twice.

Other than than fill er up and ride :)
