you are gonna have to back that up with a vid....this is a drift.......not a power slide. I've never seen something so amazing. He was turned in and back on the gas long before the other guy was even at the turn in. That's an awesome way to shave time and put space between you and your enemy...I mean opponent.

whats the difference between a powerslide and a drift??

that pic above looks like he is backing it in, which is totally different than powersliding or drifting. he hasnt hit his apex yet, which would tell me he is not back on the throttle yet.

i remember watching that season on speed channel. i believe chris vermulen (the rider shown) won the championship that year and moved onto MotoGP the next. the things he did on that honda that year he won the championship were mind boggling and EXTREMELY uncommon. try and name one other person you've seen doing this...

go ahead, i'll wait.

so this is a powerslide or a drift?

Actually I dont even care .I just love the picture:cheers

i don't care if you call it a triple lindy...it's fucking awesome.

anybody who prefers the second vid over the first does not fully understand and/or appreciate the skill involved in what Chris Vermulen did in the first vid

^ lol agreed. Not sure how anyone can watch the 2nd vid and not notice that the bikes in the 2nd vid are sliding sideways....while turning sideways

....................however in the first vid, he is sliding sideways...while facing forward.

epic awesomeness and probably can't be repeated by anyone - unlike a powerslide.

hahah my bad on the repost :dunno

first vid - guy was on brakes and started pushing the rear out the wrong way so he conitinued to go with it bc he was trying to set his speed for his corner enter.

2nd vid - guy who came out of a left turn doing a powerslide, then slamming on the brakes to release the weight off the rear inwhich he backed his rear out to set him up for proper speed and seemed to be doing it more for show then actually setting up a line.

my thoughts:

I believe a power slide is when the back wheel is turning faster than the front or something like that. No brakes are involved with a power slide once started.....since the back wheel is spinning faster, it gives the ability to steer with the rear or "back it in." This is also why if a powerslide is done incorrectly - you WILL highside once the rear grips....or low side if you failed it from the start.

a drift is hard on the brakes while hard ( or steady) on the gas - takes tremendous skill to balance the bike like that...let alone make it slide VERTICALLY while moving HORIZONALLY - like in the 1st vid.

:dunno too gangsta for me lol

OK well then yes i guess there is a difference between a powerslide and drift , powerslide take power drifting only takes a rear brake.

But i have to disagree on backing it in. backing it in is when the back tire is spinning slower than the front causing the back end to step out a little bit, but both have the same end result if not done properly.

I do know for a fact that in powerslides and backing it in, all your control is based on wheel speed variation. when the wheel speed differences get too far apart that is when you loose control. a 5mph difference in wheel speed , the slide is easily controlled but when that speed is lets say 30 mph difference, is when the slide gets out of control.

Midnightgsxr1g
12-13-2010, 10:01 PM
so you are saying the 1st vid was on accident or done in error? :lol :thumbdown

YUP
:chucks

why would he push in the rear towards the inside of the corner b4 the drive line? doesnt make sence to me bc in that situation he would be aiming is bike towards the outside of the corner which would cut his chances on have a proper line in and out unless he was going for gigantic line comming out of the turn for the straight but thats highly doubtful bc hes losing enough time in the corner entrance.

Now i would understand if he pushed the rear to the outside of the turn creating a better turn in. last min turn in and good corner speed would push him through a little quicker then others while folling a good line.

What makes the vermulen video amazing is he is hung out to the right, while sliding right, for a right hand turn.

NORMALLY you hang out left, and slide straight or right, for a right hand turn.

This all coming from a guy who CAN back it in, the vermulen video is much more amazing than the second video

So drifting in a car is a powerslide on a bike? This confuses me even more because this sounds a lot like how drifting in a car is done. And if so, then I still don't understand what drifting on a bike is.

To me it looks like as someone else stated, it was originally an error, but he as able to notice the error and roll with it and make it work to his benefit (first vid). Don't know how... but it happened. But then again, it does look like it was done on purpose.

The second vid is def more common. Very similar to seeing cars drift. Same with the pic posted, but that pic is on a way more extreme level.

I dont know what the FUCK you all are talking about "drifting" vs "powerslide"

It is the same damn thing :lmao. If you are on the GAS, and the rear is spinning faster than you are going, you are "drifitng" "power sliding" "smoking the rear" "lighting it up" whatever you want to call it.

If you are on the BRAKES, and the rear tire is going slower than you are going, and sideways, you are backing it in.

He was backing it in.... just very very unconventionally.
