Sooo...I had my computer running like a champ. I had it up and running for about 3 weeks without having to shutdown or reboot. My ex-girlfriend comes over to use my 'puter sometimes and she shut it down because she feels it's a waste of electricity. Since then, the computer likes to freeze up. I can control the mouse but can not click on anything and the keyboard doesn't function. But this little freeze up doesn't happen on a regular interval. Sometimes I can run the 'puter for 1 hour before it happens...sometimes for 6 or 7 hours. There's no viruses as per NAV. I figure it may be a particular task may be crapping out, but I don't know which one. I usually shut down any task that I'm not currently using except for NAV and various smaller progs (pop-up stopper and such).
I'm running ME...

...any ideas?

Damn man I had the same problem like a month ago. Thought it was my hard drive going out.. My computer would only run for like a min though.. Got a new hard drive and re-installed everything and its good to go but I can still use my old hard drive to store stuff so that wasn't the problem.. Anyone else with ideas?

Well the first thing I would do is to run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy(free downloads from download.com) and make sure there isn't any spyware/adware programs running in the background that might be causing this. If your running a wireless keyboard/mouse i'd replace the batteries even if they have a built in power meter that says they are good.

I would also suggest getting windows XP Upgrade or Full Edition and get rid of ME, ME is JUNK!

LOL....it could be a heap of things dude. Try gixxertib's suggestions first and then I would start to look at the drivers. Maybe a video driver is not agreeing with ME. Sometimes on ME explorer.exe doesn't just want to work. Have you tied to run Norton wondows doctor yet? Sometimes it will find some stuff in the registry that got jacked. Good luck dude!

Well, it hasn't locked up for over 12 hours now. I think I may have it up and running for awhile now. Only time will tell.

As for the SpyBot and what not. I run it several times a month. I have Norton's run the gamut once a week. No issues came up with either. I hadn't thought about the wireless mouse though. I've had it for almost a year and I haven't changed out the battery. It could be that but I've never heard of that locking up Windoze before.
