Hi mates,

I have added 2 LED/ pole lights to the front of my bike to improve visibility in the night.

Had added a switch to them. But now the problem is that when the bike is off and if i were to switch on the pole light switch. The pole light will turn on even when the bike ignition is off.

I park in the public alot due to work, would be worse if some itchy hands decide to meddle with the switch and let it on for hours.

Any experts can give some advice on how to route the wiring so that only when the ignition is turned on and the pole light switch is on then the lights will lit up?

I connect both LED positive wire into 1 and route to an end of a switch. Then both LED negative to GROUND. Route another wire from my bike main battery positive side to another end of the switch.
A simple diagram of what i did has been uploaded.

Thanks.

im not too good with bike wiring but i can use my car wiring knowledge. if you have a test light, you can locate a switched power wire that runs to your accessories or headlight when the key is turned. you can run your power wire to that and should switch on when the headlight/key is switched on.

im not too familiar with the LED pole lights you are talking about. from the picture, it looks like it is mounted on each side of the bike and runs on a parallel circuit of some sort? most of the time a switched wire is red with a stripe on it but i have seen some in a car that is yellow. depends on the maker. a test light will tell you real quick.

Check up on heated grips and air horn installations.

They both have the same principle to avoid operation unless the ignition is turned on.

Insert a relay between your switch and the battery and add an inline fuse.

It will be safe and only operational when the bike is switched on.

Il get some pics over the weekend.

i assume the LEDs have their own fuse inline with the power wire. Just splice the main power wire going to the battery into a keyed power source like the fuel pump

or the license plate light wire...you can splice into that as it is only on when the key is turned and the wire is very easy to get to
