Is this a homemade mid pipe?

Replacing the cat with a straight pipe WILL give you significantly more power in the upper rpms, but it WILL affect to some extent the lower rpm power range. This is always true with any exhaust.

To help with this problem, you should remove the SET valve, and do the PAIR mod. This will most likely reduce or eliminate the backfiring. A PC3 wouldn't be a bad idea either. Without these, your bike will run like crap, in reality it would be performing better with the stock setup. You are restricted in some areas, and free in others.... your setup is working against itself.

Do you still have the stock headers? Do you have an eftermarket pipe? You might as well do a full exhaust system, if you are going to eliminate your cat.

Not to mention your exhaust will smell horrible as you have no emission control....and don't plan on passing any tests if you have that planned for the future.

Is this a street or track bike? For the street, removing the cat sucks, unless of course you are already riding your bike to its fullest and you need that few extra horsepower:dunno

Anyhow good luck, and if you are gonna do some of the exhaust, just do it right and do all of it. :punk

I ran a similar issue when I did my cathack, low end was weak and the bike was surging right at 11,000rpm. My advice get yourself a PVC with an autotune, this will solve most of your issues. However, according to my butt dyno the low end was still pretty weak until I got a TRE :punk. I do have a TRE for sale if interested.

Get it custom mapped at a dyno by someone who knows their stuff. Problems solved.

Thanks for posting this up. I'll need to be picking one of these up soon as well. :cheers

i have zero issues with my bike. i have no cat on my bike. no back fire or anything of that sort. i have the set valve mod done but no pair mod. i do plan on getting a power commander before next season thoughh. im not riding it much right now due to the weather but it seems fine. this issue seems hit and miss with people?

I don't have an aftermarket exhausr but I did remove my SET Valve and I have had zero issues with anything. Like Jetblast said seem pretty hit and miss.
