the suzuki dealership i bought my 04 600 from told me between 600 and 1000 miles i need to take it to them and they need to adust the valves and some other stuff. another cycle service place told me to just change the oil. is the suzuki dealership just trying to make another buck or is this for real.

Depends on the dealer. Doesn't matter though, you should have them change the oil and check it over anyway....how much will you save if you're wrong...know what I mean?

Yeah, the first service is probably the most important. I just had mine done at 750 miles. It took them about an hour and 15 min, and it was about $150. Better to be safe then sorry.

Yes, it's just the oil (and filter) that needs to be changed I think.
150$ for an oil change. WOW http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think the manual calls for tightening all the exhaust bolts also. Not a big deal to do on your own.

I have a 04 GSXR 600 My first service was $200.00 and I asked what they would do for this they said 2-1/2 hrs labor and they will adjust the throttle bodies I marked the tank bolts and when I came to pick it up the tank was not removed I talked to the service manager and he said we do not nomally adjust these but I made them take it back and do the work look out for these guys! I am going to get a factory service manual to do minor work myself where can I find one?

i believe he meant the dealership was HIGH!! valve adjust interval is 24,000K's for the first one.

You guys are wasting your money taking it in for the first service....but I guess it's your money to burn.

I kinda agree, I mean if you change your own oil for the first service then for the next take it to the dealer it should be fine IMO

I changed my oil.. very easy and didn't cost me much

save your money and buy a torque wrench.. and tighten all the bolts yourself.

I'm kinda a freak because I changed my oil at 400 and then oil/filter at 750 miles. I then took it to the dealer to check it over for about $85 (didn't have to change oil/filter because I did it). That way I have proof of the 600 mile service done at a Suzuki dealer that way if anything needs to be claimed on warranty there will be no question of it's maintenance. Otherwise I wouldn't have taken it to the dealer because I can check the bolts and stuff myself.

OK my boy is TECH and the dealis first SERVICE 600 miles. Drain the break in oil. U can see that crap when i comes out. very thinr. They want to create friction and scare up those pistons walls nice and good. nothing bad just norm break in. thats why do not to over rev or stay at a costant speed for several minutes during break in.
Just oil change, check for loose bolts And they ALSO say DO NOT USE synthetic oil untill ur 3rd or 4th oil change. Recomend regular oil then go to semi blend or full synthetic.
I would also check chain tension. New chains stretch earlier then later.. MY 0.02 cents!

I changed the oil and filter at 586 and then oil only at 1267. I'll probably just change oil and filter every year from now on.

Inside that little book they give you when you by the bike, I think it is called the owners manual say that all they do is change the oil and check the torque of exhaust and suspension bolts. I think they are just trying to make an extra dollar off people who don't know any better. Do yourself a favor and put that 150 bucks towards something for your bike.

after i looked at the manual i decided to do it myself, thanks for the input, i fugured they were just trying to make a buck
