Alright fellas, I just got my FIRST bike saturday. Brand new 600. I got the black with orange and silver. My question is, what do the 600's top out at? Ive heard all kind of stuff and was still wonderin. Im still breaking mine in and im not about to find out anytime soon. Any thoughts or comments wanted. If this is your first bike, i would not really be to concerned about topping the bike out. Learn to ride it first.

The most ive reached is 155mph, I can definitely go faster but I am not really into top speed, it was just one of those nights on the way back from the beach. =)

save it for the track.

I hit 130, but then again I think I was only in 4th gear at about 14,500 rpms

DUDE I HIT 157 IN 5TH AND I KNOW THERES MORE....A LOT MORE...THAT THING SCARES ME...HAHA...I LOVE IT THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!

keep in mind the speedometer is innacurate. might be off by around 10mph at 155mph (indicated) speeds.

Seems like a couple of magazine articles I've read list the top speed for a 600 at 156 mph.

Cycle World May 2004 put top end at 155.5......I have had mine at 128 high end of 4th gear low end of 5th gear. Not enough damn road without old people.....

I did not know of this... why would it be off though? I know this only happens when you change wheel diameter, and I know it has some delay in showing speed changes but my main concern is why would the speedometer be so innacurate?

i hit 160 on a 3 mile straight away on a biker highway in nor cal where im from. too much messing around though with my bike like wheelies and speeding that my bike has lost power. my take off is really slow now. it doesnt pick up until after 4 rpms? i got a stock 03 600. what do you think is the problem? it's my first bike and i dont really know much about engines and what so ever. thanks.! reply back someone....

perception. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif just look at all the posts in here about the speeds of the 600. people will think they are faster than they really are.. and that makes people excited.

This is not the question you need to be asking. Concentrate on learning how to ride the bike and overall getting comfortable riding.

Besides top speed in a straight line is boring.

because the speedometer reads optimistic by design. this is also true of cars. come on now, you didn't think that the reason for the speedos being off was because the manufacturers simply couldn't get it right, did you?

the speedometer reading is taken off of the countershaft sprocket, so any changes to the front or rear sprockets, or rear tire diameter, will affect the speedo error.

I had allways herd 158mph on the 03's. I've had my spedo to mid 170's b4 gearing and only around 169 after but didnt have a lid and wasent trying to max it out. After going -1 up front i figure my actual top speed is around 149, if it was 158 b4 that is.
