: whats your resting pulse rate.....,
RepulsioN 03-22-2004, 06:13 AM lots of posts about your height /weight but I thought it might be good to see how your cardio vascular system is doing....
average resting pulse rate is about 70 odd. Over 80 and you need to do something about it. If your fit it should be high 50's mid 60's.
If your really fit you can get it down to low 50's late 40's. Elite marathon runners can get it down to very low 40's but that takes a lot of work.
The lower the better, although any lower than low 40's and you might want to see a doctor - there are medical conditions that can give you a low pulse rate.
If you dont know what your resting pulse rate is heres how to take it....relax .
Put the first two fingers of your hand on your neck under your jaw line, where a strip of muscle runs from your jaw line to the bottom of your neck. You should be able to feel your pulse, but if you can't, try moving your fingers around a little till you can find it. now count the amount of beats over 60 secs. Its important to be relaxed.
dont use your thumb to take your pulse.
ok fire away people......
GixieChick 03-22-2004, 07:58 AM Just did mine, it's about 59-60. I also have a heart condition where my heart sometimes "skips" a beat. It's normal, and not fatal... But if I were to have a cup of coffee, or a cup of soda w/ caffine.. or even a chocolate bar... it'd be up near 80-90-100. My heart beat flies when I have any type of caffine. It's pretty scary. But again, the doc said that's normal, and unless it's up over 140, not to worry http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

the taller you are the harder your heart has to work to pump the blood further

are you sure ? - I thought that was one of those popular myth things. I think its far more linked with your frame size /weight than it is your height.
natas 04-08-2004, 12:07 AM low 60's here.

Elite atheletes have very fit heart muscles, it needs less work to pump all the blood around the body. Ian Thorpe the swimmer has a heart rate under 40 and he's over 6 foot. So no, resting heart rate is not dependant on height.. its dependant on the condition of your heart and the condition of your circulatory system..increased resistance in either (ie unconditioned heart or vessels full of fat deposits) can push you resting heart rate up. That and medical condtions.
My resting HR is 75..at 3am after a shit load of caffine for night shift..usually its 65 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
affirefighter 04-11-2004, 07:31 AM I like the instructions- This is called a "digital carotid reading" Yah, well anyway normal for an adult is 60-80, I run every day and lift weights. I don't smoke or eat a lot of crap and I'm at a resting of 85.
saintanne 07-05-2004, 05:05 PM 51 years old. I have a history of cycling, motorcross, and running. I currently play racketball and use the stairmaster and riding bicycle. Resting heart rate is 60 to 62 b.p.m.
Ultra_Kool_Dude 07-06-2004, 04:49 AM Usually between 55 - 60
--Ryan-- 07-06-2004, 02:05 PM 22, resting heart rate, a consistent 42 BPM. No shit! I amaze the docs every time I go. They are like "are you sure, let's check it again.....damn"
