For any of those interested how the K9 fares against the older 1000 models i finally got a chance to get some friends together on thier gixxer 1k's and really play around in a huge empty secure lot over 3/4 mile long in a warehouse district.

My bike has PCV, BMC and Yosh r77 slip-on for performance mods.

First round: Me vs K7 with bmc, pc, tre, yosh trc slip-on. Went 3 times. K9 always ended up maintaining a 3-4 bike lead from dead stop and roll-ons.

Second round: Me vs K6 with scorpion slip-on. Guy could not launch to save his life so got 8+ bikes on him through the 1/4. Roll-ons averaged 4-5 bikes from all gear ranges.

Third Round: Me vs K5 with pc3, bmc, m4 full system, 3+ rear sprocket. Dyno'd 167 to back wheel. Strongest bike of the group. Only maintained a 1-2 bike lead through the 1/4 on 3 races. The k5 was a monster down low and would get a few bikes through 1-3 gear but up top the K9 pulled back in the lead each race. Roll-Ons were almost dead even. The K5 has a ridiculous amount of torque that was very evident in how hard it pulled down low.

Fourth Round: Me vs 04 ZX10 stretched, lowered, full exhaust, pc3. dyno'd 174 to back wheel. Smoked me through the 1/4 because he was slammed and stretched with airshifter on a shinko drag tire. But from roll-ons the K9 would pull 2-3 bikes from almost any gear and mph.

We all swapped throughout the afternoon and got the same range of results mixing and matching riders and bikes.

Bottom line. The K9 is no slouch, was the most comfortable of the bikes there and everyone who rode it was extremely impressed.:cheers

Cool, glad you guys switched riders so the results wouldn't be biased towards rider skills.

After that huge model overhaul, I'd certainly hope so :cheers

OK, now put a +3 sprocket on the K9 and than compare with the K5 :dunno

Never liked sprockets on my bikes. I'm happy with the stock gearing for a mix of all types of riding.

Got a chance to ride a friend's K9 for a week back and forth to work. I'm hooked! I just hope I can find a dealer that's willing to cut me a good deal.

You should.....it's almost 2011 and Suzuki still hasn't sold their 2009 stock in the US. L1 will be the same bike as the K9.

Have to agree on the K9. It's the first gixxer that's come out since the K5 that's made me consider a new bike. But I definitely won't be selling my baby.

Anyone have any convincing arguments for having 2 bikes instead of one? As it is I had to promise to stop being a moron on the roads and stick to the track. Too many friends started getting hurt recently. How do I convince her 2 bikes are safer than one?

As for sprockets, I've gone -1 on the front and love it. Extra grunt (like the K5 needs it!) out of the corners. Who cares about the 3 or 4 km/h loss of top speed. I'm not trying to break any land speed records.

v6stranger: it's nice to have comparasions like that but hadn't nobody remind to rec a video even with their mobile phone? That topic is worthless without any videos..

If we would have not all been having so much fun I'd have probably convinced someone to stay off thier bike for a few passes and video-tape. But bike guys in our area have also blown the cover off our spots by posting web videos. :dunno

this is my 4th gixxer (3rd gixxer 1000) and this bike overall is better than previous gixxers. I will admit the 09 needs alot more low end/mid range to compare it to 06 and prior - but all the other advancements on the 09 make up for it.
I currently have a 09 R1 (that was built for canada's #2 pro superbike racer) so there is alot of work done to the r1, and i can honestly say that I am faster on the gixxer than the r1. The r1 is a tank, handles like $hit and takes a tonne of work to muscle thru turns....

i'm really pleased with the gixxer

But the 09 sure makes up for it especially with its ferocious top end power.

Roll on testing tells so much about a bike.....:dunno

sweet2bad: I've rode a K6 which has more than 25000miles,with a complete exhaust system, and I also have a K9 at the moment has 6000miles %100 standart.

K6 has unbeliavable power till 2000rpm to the end,K9 starts to starts at 7000rpm which fails me much :(
What kind of tunings should I make to get a power at low-mid ranges as K6 ? Should I change the sprockets after putting an exhaust system with PCV? Also I don't want to lose any top speed, coz K9 has almost same top speed with the previous gixxers.. I was expecting to have at least 3-4 mph more top speed.. But it ddoesn't have because of the short gear ratios. Then I ask 'why it doesn't have enough power at down-mid ranges even it has closer gear ratios' It doesn't make any sense..

Changing sprockets wont get you 'more' power; it will just shift the torque/power curve into a diffrent range. So you can possibly gain more acceleraton down low, at the expense of losing a bit of top end. On my 02, 03 and 06 Gixxer 1000's i put drop in cams and degreed them. That made a HUGE difference in midrange without losing any top end...But cams are quite a bit more than sprockets lol

I'm considering cams for my 09 actually

Full exhaust and a re-tune will always gain you top end power, but midrange, not so much (depending on the full system)

the xtre on a 2009, gained one of the members on here (grumpy427) i think 7-8more hp in the midrange for gears 1->3, so that is a good option too (and you just plug it in and go!)

xtre? never heard it before sorry :(

can you give me additional info about that
7-8 ps is a hugee different

If you look at the Akrapovic or Leo Vince dyno sheets (on their web sites)
you will notice the HUGE difference they make in the midrange (up to 15 HP)
and 10 up top !
Also, the bike is way over geared. Sprockets are a must in my opinion
Have a look at the gearing commander website and you will see for yourself.

Thats a good comparo. Now if someone have done something simular with a 2003 I'm curious to see what the outcome would be.

Sounds like it was a good time regardless of the outcome. I'm still shock though Suzuki has yet to list any 2010s on their own web site. They must be having a hard time moving inventory in this economy?
