Nahh you shouldnt, thats funny because i just had to replace my rectifier about 2 weeks ago on my 98' SRAD 750, it wasnt that much either but i dunno about an 06' prob the same. A rectifier regulates how much power to pull from tha battery at different RPMs and when its not working or non existent in a bike it will keep stalling out or wont even stay running...

As Samantha said above, you need both.

A rectifier regulates how much power
to pull from the battery at different RPMs

... is completely incorrect.

The rectifier converts the AC voltage generated by the rotor / stator assembly to DC voltage.

The voltage regulator keeps the voltage from the rectifier between a maximum of around 13.8v - 14.5v. This voltage is used to charge your battery as well as run your motorcycle.

There are a bunch of threads around diagnosing / fixing charging issues.

Samantha's answer was genius in its simplicity.

OP... I don't know what the R/R has to do with the problems you're experiencing, or why you suspected it in the first place. But my suggestion is to take a look at all your major electrical connections & make sure they're A) secure, and B) dry. In particular, the connections to your gauge panel, the connections from the main wiring harness to the front of the bike, and both battery cables (including the point where the ground (black) cable connects to the engine.
