Last night, I think a virus wiped my hardrive out. The computer wouldnt boot off of the hard drive, so either my computer just fucked up or a virus wiped it out. I posted this from a friends house, but i called Hewlett Packard and they are supposed to be sending me some cd's to restore my hardrive back to factory defaultt. I tryed to do the system recovery but with no luck because everytime i would get so far, the computer would just restart on its own. All of my god damn pics, videos, songs etc.. are gone now. Has this happened to anyone else before???

make sure you check the cables on the HD and MB to make sure they are all seated correctly. It actually sounds like your MB is fried. See if you can take your HD and throw it in your buddies PC and see if it will boot up.

Dude...don't sweat it. ckfrdrice has the right idea. Take your hard drive and put it in a friends computer, and set it up as a slave drive (as opposed to the master). I bet you can recover all your data that way. If you need any help, feel free to contact me.

What exactly happens when you try and boot up the pc? Does anything come on the screen? Any error messages? If not, do any of the lights on the front of your pc light up or flash? Does your PC beep a number of times? Do you hear hard drive or fan activity? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

That's what I want to know if you give us some more information we'll be able to help you out more...things to look for is if the fans in the case are running...power supply is good...does the computer start up, screen flicker and attempt to boot or dead when you turn it out...possible motherboard failure....or does it attempt to boot and say no boot drive found, no hard drive or something of that nature...which would be a hard drive failure. Things to look for is a blown capacitor on your motherboard, the ribbon cables on the hard drive or motherboard coming loose and power cable tighteness on the motherboard and hard drive.

I am going to take it by my parents house tonight, because my dad knows all about computers. Well as far as the sound goes, it sounds like it always has, so i guess everything is working right. But when I press F8 to start in safe mode, the options on the safe mode screen come up, but when i choose one, the computer restarts itself. Then when I press F10 to try to do a system recovery, a blue screen comes up and says this: A Problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.
Technical info: *** STOP: 0x00000008E( 0XC0000005, 0XBF865E66, 0XF8740E08, 0X00000000)

*** win32k.sys- AddressBF865E66 base at BF800000, Datestamp, 3b5ee2e6.

Didnt know if you guys needed all that, but its what appears on the screen. Hey Bmacd, My dad is gonna try what you said, and if it works, I owe you some beer man http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
