Are the gauge clusters from the newer bikes with the digital speedometer compatible with the older bikes (i.e. '97) with the analog speedometer?

Are the same shape / mounting configuration / wiring harness, or are the older units mechanical cable driven?

the 2000 and up gauges have different mounting location tabs and different wireing, they will plug in but will not work.

When you say the "will not work".

Do you mean the won't work only because they don't mount up right?

Have you actualy pluged in a 2000 speedo on to a 99 and it does not work?

Just wondering? I have a 2000 gauage sitting on my bench at work im waiting to get a 99 in to try it on.

It will plug in (the plugs are the same) but the wireing is different. A couple lights come on and nothing works. You will need to get a wireing diagram to find what wires need to be relocared to make the gauges work.

it should but I never tried it. the ecu is different but it uses the same looking speedo pickup.

Look at acewell speedos. They are around 200-300 all lcd and you can wire them right in. I have a 98 gsxr and i have a nice one for 250. They are made to put on anything so you can wire it in, just make sure you have a factory diagram or a cylmer to help out.
