I'm starting up my next project and I'm looking for some help here. Somebody posted up a link to the whole procedure for adding a VFR swingarm onto their SRAD. There's a few on ebay right now and I really want to do this. I see a few people have so I'm not worried.....just be nice not to start this project totally blind. Thanks in advance. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif

Somebody over on sportbike.net has the VFR swingarm. It looks to be a pretty straight forward mod. From what i've read, you basically need to have a few spacers made for the swingarm to bolt right on. Can't remember which shock you use... Looks sweet! I'm thinking about doing the same thing later this year (finances permitting). For the time being, i'm going to mount an exhaust under my tail section...

I was gonna do this too, but after comparing the rediculous weight of the ss swingarm and honda rim setup compared to new-gen suzuki stuff i decided to go with suzuki parts http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
It definetly looks good though, but for my riding style I don't think it would have the same stability... here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10066&item=2466926 929
It definetly looks cool though http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yup, its pretty simple, just gottta cut ~0.300" off the left pad on the frame, hack up the Suzuki swingarm bolt, grind a little off the right side of the hole where the shock passes through, and it bolts right up, the wheel and rear sprocket line up perfectly.
The VFR swingarm is ~0.750" longer than the Suzuki swingarm and because of the Suzuki dogbones it raises the seat just over an inch, because of the chang in chassis geometry the bike turns in VERY WELL. Its still a wheeile monster though http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
The added weight is low on the bike so you don't really feel it. And the larger rear rotor is almost overkill. The swingarm is designed for a bike that is ~100# heavier so there is very little flex (if any).
Everyone who has ridden my Gixxer has commented on how well it handles.

Thanks Mark. I'm still doing the 1k engine conversion. The only real hangup is I need a front end before I start putting this together. Do you think the VFR swingarm can handle a 1000 motor? Weight isn't a huge issue either.

Awesome. Thanks for the pics! I didn't see them before. Off hand, do you know what year that swingarm came off of? Or are they all the same? I found a couple locally cheaper than ebay after the shipping. I just wanted to make sure they'll work. The wheel looks the same as yours. Is that a 5.5" rear wheel? Also, which shock/linkage did you use?
----Just out of curiousity. Has anyone ever fit up a ducati swingarm/wheel. For some reason they seem cheaper than VFR swingarms and come with Ohlins shocks! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

hey 812MANY, if you can make a nice instructional post (if you have any "during construction" pictures) of how you did this then Id like tol make it a sticky in this forum so everyone can read it before asking about it.
Get to work http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
and from what you said about the handeling and such, I'd assume that it could take a 1000 motor, interesting idea. I might have to reconsider this mod once again http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
