: How to: SpeedoDRD for Dummies
millerb7 07-17-2010, 10:02 PM Tools you'll need:
- Allen key to unscrew your tank so you can prop it up.
Steps:
1. Prop your tank up.
http://idisk.mac.com/blakemiller-Public/SpeedoDRD/open-bike.JPG
2. Locate your speed sensor on your bike. Below is a picture of what it looks like, on the left side of the bike attached to the front sprocket cover.
http://idisk.mac.com/blakemiller-Public/SpeedoDRD/speed-sensor.JPG
3. Follow the wires going out of the speed sensor under the tank. You'll see a connector (MINE WAS BLACK, NOT WHITE) under the tank.
http://idisk.mac.com/blakemiller-Public/SpeedoDRD/speedo-clip.JPG
4. Unplug the clip. PLEASE NOTE that in order to unplug this clip, YOU MUST have small freaking hands and realize that the actual "clip" is on the backside and must be PULLED out, NOT pushed toward the clip itself. It took me for freaking ever to get this damn thing apart, as I had issues getting my hands in there and I thought the part I needed to "push in" was on the front. Turns out you need to pull out, and it's on the back. I hope that makes sense. You'll see what I mean when you get in there and look at it.
5. Plug your speedoDRD into the two parts of the clip you just unplugged. Straight plug and play.
Here is a picture of mine all finished up and zip-tied down.
http://idisk.mac.com/blakemiller-Public/SpeedoDRD/final-speedodrd.JPG
6. Program your speedoDRD:
Go to this link in order to help calculate how far off your speedometer currently is. Mine was -16.7% off. http://www.speedodrd.com/p_sdrd_calc.htm
You can watch a video of how to program the speedoDRD with the following link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10ziF5-jIaY&feature=player_embedded
I followed the video instructions and had no issues whatsoever. Again, I had to use -16.7% for my speedodrd.

Nah... just doing some work on the bike, and learning most the things the hard way.... figured I'd help out some of the newer people who are less mechanically inclined, like myself. Hence the "for dummies".
It's a forum, don't care much about my e-peen.

Do a how-to on brake lines. I want to do mine ;)
millerb7 07-17-2010, 10:43 PM This coming weekend.... if you can hold off ;)
Have spiegler white lines coming in this week.
And one day, I will actually do my full yosh r-55 and PCV+autotune I have laying around haha.

Sounds good. They should be in mid-week, and I'm pretty impatient so I might do them like Thursday so I can be ready for the weekend.

what pads are you going to go with.. I hate the stockers. too mushy
millerb7 07-17-2010, 11:55 PM Probably carbon lorraine... maybe EBC HH pads...
I've heard that Galfer pads require quite a bit of heat though, and I will be using them on street, not track, so not sure about that.
I'm still researching mine, as I probably won't buy pads for another few months.
Thanks nice write ups I'll be doing this one alogn with R1 soon your effort is appreciated.
Driving_Miss_Daisy 07-18-2010, 12:48 AM Mine is run next to the battery for easy access. So all I have to do is remove the seat and it is right there.

I've been recommended those as well..

Do you have old or new model? I won the one from the competition on here, and it's an old model, total length of wire is only about 8".... not enough I didn't think to get back in by he batter... but I will never need to access mine again, as I don't really care to look at my top speed.
MotoMummy 07-18-2010, 10:47 AM If you really wanted to you could extend the wires.
millerb7 07-18-2010, 11:20 AM If you really wanted to you could extend the wires.
Yeah, no biggie here... like I said I don't care what my top speed is so I'll only have to access that little bad boy if I change anything again.... I might check it next season just to do a comparison of how closely it stays to -16.7%.

I think the 16.7% should provide you real top speed. Mine it was accurate across 20mph / 40mph / 60mph I will try to do GPS runs on 80mph and 100mph next time I'm at the track:
I'll update the info in this post:

Did this to my 750... couldnt be happier! :punk
My speedo was off by 14.5% after a -1/+1 sprocket change and normal factory error. Good write up man!
Jinxx750 08-14-2010, 12:31 PM Good write up! Can't wait to see the auto tune one...
Jason600 08-17-2010, 01:28 AM i'm thinking about getting the speedo healer and i haven't gotten it because of the cost to get it accurate on dyno. will this calc work for speedo healer as well?
Driving_Miss_Daisy 08-17-2010, 10:30 AM Gps is the best way, probably the cheapest to. If you don't have that have someone with a car go ahead of you so you can judge your speed off of theirs.
badazz96z28 08-17-2010, 12:02 PM I got mine installed yesterday! It is by my battery as well so easy to get to. It actually came in mail on Saturday but was shipped Signature required and I wasnt home to sign for it :banghead Now I just need to take my GPS and get it exact. Wasnt doing that in the rain last evening!
Monkey_Leader77 08-22-2010, 04:39 AM Also if u really can't figure out how to get the speed sensor connector open...u can take the one 4mm Allen screw out and take the whole speed sensor out to get a ton of extra room to fuck with it. I wanted to say thanks since I used your -16.7 and I'm spot on next to the new civics providing their speedo is right. I might get around to doing a write up on changing wheel bearings if anyone cares.
ReJeCteD666 09-10-2010, 06:23 PM Just wanted to say finally got around to installing mine, that clip is a bitch but it makes it a lot easier if you unbolt the actual speed sensor from the sprocket cover. Great product easy to set-up. Thanks for the write up!
ReJeCteD666 09-10-2010, 06:24 PM Just wanted to say finally got around to installing mine. That clip really is a bitch took me a while to figure it out too, makes it alot easier if you unbolt the actual sensor from the sprocket cover gives you more room to work. Great write up great product. Thanks:punk
Jason600 09-27-2010, 01:53 AM I bought one this week. This thing is pretty cool. Except I routed it differently. I followed the same line as my powercommander and put it under the seat. Gives it a cleaner look and wires are straight; and if you'd like to recall your speed or anything else, it's right under the seat.
FraggleRock 09-29-2010, 05:55 PM I wanted to say thanks since I used your -16.7 and I'm spot on next to the new civics providing their speedo is right. I might get around to doing a write up on changing wheel bearings if anyone cares.
I'm glad to hear -16.7 works for you. I've been using it for a while now and it seems to be spot on. Do my a favor if you can/willing try to compare at 80mph and 100mph (on the track of course). I'm curiouse to see how it will work with -16.7 setting. I've wanted to do a test run on the track but have been super busy at work. I'll try to get some play time soon.
Let me know the results and I'll update the info in this post:

I for one, would appreciate that write up.
rickcash26 11-02-2010, 02:07 PM What happened to the brake line write-up? Havent seen is posted up and will be switching mine out for braided lines pretty soon. sorry for an off-topic post.

Sorry for not being around lately... been SUPER SUPER busy past few months starting up a new company and all.
Anyways, the brake line write-up is on my Gixxer How To (http://gixxerfixxer.com) website. You can hop over there and see the writeup with videos and pics.... some of the other writeups are on there as well... I have NOT been able to put them all on their yet as I've been really busy... my intentions are to get all the writeups on my site though along with everything else I do over the winter.
Thanks again!

would you pls post a picture of the connector from the drd that goes into the oem connector. is it an exact plug-in as the oem to the 08 gsxr 600? thx
MotoMummy 11-06-2010, 03:07 PM yes it's the same otherwise it wouldn't work. It's plug and play.
millerb7 11-13-2010, 02:55 PM Thanks corey ;) Yeah it's just a straight plug and play exact same connector.
Sorry again, been SUPER busy IRL and haven't been able to stop by much.
Swodi 11-21-2010, 08:50 AM Nevermind, I figured it out. ;)
