I've viewed these forums for quite some time but have yet to post. So I've been bitten by the gixxer bug, bad. I'm on the west coast of Canada and we don't have the greatest weather here (rainy).

I've been looking for a gsxr 750, probably an 06-08. Just wondering how i will fair on this bike in the long run. I've been riding dirt bikes for a few years, I'm in my early 20's all licensed up and have taken an MSF course.

I rode my buddies zx-6r for the weekend recently and had a blast. Only trouble was the first day I let the clutch out a little too fast trying to get ahead of our group off the line and stalled :hammer. Oh also about seat height and comfort, I'm 6'3 about 205lbs, I've heard i may need a chiropractor after an hour on the road?:shifty

I have a friend who rides the ducati 1098, and although the thing looks bad ass I have my heart set on the 750. I'm looking at what I'll eventually want to do to my soon to be bike and the expenses are adding up quick. What kind of price range am I looking at for an 06-08 gsxr 750? and as far as Canadian insurance will be (yikes!!)??

My co-worker took a superbike course in Cali last summer, as is pushing me towards that for next year, pending affordability. would anybody recommend this or has done any track schooling before?

So I went to my neighborhood auto insurance broker this morning and requested a quote. Here in BC we only have one Insurance company ICBC, which prevents competitive pricing. When I do purchase my bike it will be paid cash so I wouldn't have a bank breathing down my neck about full coverage, but is there a benefit to full coverage? To my understanding; comprehensive insurance covers if someone steals the bike or it gets damaged while parked etc.

Quotes for gsxr600 were:
2mil coverage collision + comprehensive with a $500 deductible; at a 10% discount approx 280-300 a month (ouch!!). come August I'll have 3 years accident free and no tickets etc so I'll be eligible for a 15-20% discount.

does anyone know a way to get the price down, I'd consider driving into the interior (i.e kamloops, kelowna, or the even Vancouver island to insure) if it would prove cheaper.

Any help is much appreciated!!

Welcome to the Forums.

I'm originally from Toronto but now live in Texas. I ride a 08 Gixxer 600 and love it (used to race 600 amateur back in the day). Which ever one you buy, and I love the 750's, make sure you leave some cash aside for upgrades.

1.) Full Exhaust System & Power Commander or Bazzaz.
2.) Gear it -1 / +2 to start (it will feel like a wheelie machine in 1st).
3.) Speed Healer to correct speedometer error.
4.) Suspension tune up / fine tuning (very important depending on your weight)

That will bring the bike to life and make it fun. Good raw pull, revs up quick and torque will feels solid through the range.
