Tell them to go here with you and see who is "faster"
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=10738805647595621773&q=mid+ohio+race+track&gl=us&cd=1&cad=src:pplink&ei=dZUyTIKOHabAyQX8zKRb
Assuming you know how to brake and turn with some degree of efficiency, it should quickly become apparent which is faster.
nfdrewski3 07-05-2010, 09:41 PM right on i been down there before ya i know i can take um in the road game just wondering on the straightaways.. lol from what i was told and what i have read yes they are heavy but still quick. i know not like a newer bike. but i think i should be happy .
calk7600 07-06-2010, 02:12 AM I'm runnin 10.9 at about 130 in the quarter if that helps...k7 600w/ minor mods
tfresh99 07-06-2010, 11:18 PM even at 3rd the engine diplacment, qtr mile win is easy for a sportbike. cant challenge a sportbike around twisties.
had a friend with a vtx1800 and said he would can take off quicker than 600 gsxr, nevr saw it doen.
strong cruisers can be unsually quick off the line, but only off the line, short breath and short legs...
with anykind of decent non-squidlike skills of course its a non-contest contest.

Are you talking about 1/4 mile or in the twisties.
1/4 mile, they may get out b4 you, but you can easily walk them down. They have a little more torq because they weigh much more.
But at the top end, you have a huge advantage because you well less and rev much higher

SPL170db 07-07-2010, 04:12 PM It looks like in the hands of novices the VTX will get off the line quicker as it has more than TWICE the torque your 600 does (even though the same HP). But down the 1/4 mile, 12.7 even a total novice could do on a 600.
nfdrewski3 07-07-2010, 08:43 PM ahhh thats is wonderful news to hear.. thanks for the feedback. maybe now they will shut up when we all are riding . if not i juts tell them i see them at the next stop ..... haa haa haa thanks again for the input guys

Yeah, but I'm sure the VTX weighs at least 100lbs more than the gixxer which means a lot
Dump trucks have a sh!tload of torque but are slow as hell from a dig when compared to something that has less torque but is much lighter

In the hands of novices, having a bike like that is easier to launch and get moving.
From the sound of the OP and his heroic friends I doubt they are a bunch of Ricky Gadsens.....
Notice how this Triumph Rocket III gets off the line quicker than a GSXR 1000

But I have concerns with that vid
1)the road should have been much longer
2) the gixxer couldnt open the throttle all the way or he would have flipped the bike

Once again, go back and re-read what I wrote up there very closely....

HayAbuseD 07-09-2010, 12:11 PM Comparing apples with oranges here....
As mentioned with sign of sweep or corners, you should leave them scrapping their bodywork
Stock v stock, a 600 should still smoke all those bike, but you will be having to work harder. Top speed you should be able to see a 299 on the meter which none of them will be able to do.
Roll on acceleration they might inch ahead on initial pull if you are not in your sweet spot but they'll all be out of breath before you are come anywhere near your rev limiter.
Still..... on a 200mile journey, you may arrive first. But i am sure they will be having the last laugh as you rub your aching wrists and back.
nfdrewski3 07-12-2010, 10:54 PM well i put new chain on today and without a doubt i think they all will behind me going god dam ..... lol actually i am 6' 6' and it is quite comfy laying on the tank . least i can strech my arms lol lol without a doubt with the work on carbs and that chain i will be saying see you there guys haa haa haa i think they will shut up now .

bigbadpoppa 07-19-2010, 09:55 PM sportbikes on highways usually will win out. We run much higher RPM's which all us to WOT since we have such a big powerband to work with. Where we lose out a little is off the line since Harleys are geared at 6000 rpm and when we talk hwy, they are already near max of their rpm. They are a force to be reckoned with off the line.
TOEJAM 07-20-2010, 05:49 AM :rolleyes
The squidliness is overwhelming.
