go to the newbie section it has all the write ups you'll need to know not to get one as a first bike if you have never riden bikes before... but I can't say nothing after many years on dirt bikes and the MSF course the 03 600 was my first bike... bought it at the end of last year and have 3000 miles on it and i'm waiting on new tires already!! I've had no problems with it... except it will come around on you if you get on the throttle to early in a ride. Stay Safe and enjoy the ride

my 99 gix 750 was my first bike. everyone told me to start with something smaller, like a 500, and work up to something bigger. but i'm glad i started with the bike i wanted. just take it easy and stay off the throttle until you get a good feel for the bike.

Well that's just the problem with most newbies, isn't it...

Get the Frame sliders and bar end sliders on fast, Also a deposit on new bodywork may be a good Idea.

If you can make it past the first 3 months of riding without dropping it you should be ok.

EMPTY PARKING LOTS ARE YOUR FRIEND.

Good idea to ride with someone who has ridden a long time, and you trust to not egg you on to go faster.

Look through the turn, not where you are heading but where you want to go.

Remember that the bike will do a lot more than you are capable off as a newbie so if you get in a tight situation just relax and push yourself till it is safe.

if you are mature enough to not WOT as soon as you get on... and you are simply a mature person... it is not a problem as long as you take the msf course and get before you ever try to ride it. Also get some frame sliders! Generally when you first start riding you will drop it at least once or twice. If you get some frame sliders you wont screw anything up bad. Plus you will save your frame if you slide out.

All bikes are dangerous but the faster ones can get you into trouble in less time. A 600 is a great bike to start on if you already have motorcycling experience, not so good if you don't and aren't sure of your capabilities. I bought a GSXR 750 for my first sportbike at the age of 35 and I never regretted it. I thought about why I did such a crazy thing a few times after I really started to get into the throttle but that's natural if you cherish life and have loved ones you care about. I have had a lot of experience on two wheels on and off road previously which is mandatory before riding a bike of this caliber! I was even a little unprepared with the power it has and it took me a good year until I felt comfortable and capable enough of being able to use it all safely. The GSXR is a very intense but dangerous machine and it's built for one thing and that's going fast. You can ride it easy too and more often than not that's how you'll ride on the street. It's easy to make a mistake and sometimes you get a second chance and sometimes not such good results. You've got to have experience and a clear mind otherwise you or someone else around you will end your life. Ride safe and have fun. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would say that the bike is fine for a first bike, but just respect it, because the minute you do not respect the power you will end up on your butt.
