: Reverse Grip Bench Press Anyone??

I power lift and I get some CRAZY looks when I do my reverse grips. I personally love them for massive tricept development. I think people are scared of strain to their wrists but I have never had a problem. I have a nephew who is a professional body builder that will not do them. It's a comfort thing for him but he will testify to the results. I have been doing them for years and I am doing 3 sets of 10 starting at 225 lbs. and increasing weight after each set. I would suggest reverse grips to anyone. Try them with just the bar and feel for comfort. I adjust my grip so my pointing finger is in the notch on the bar and after I get the weight off the rack I use my palms to hold the bar and spread my finger so it points towards the weight and of course my other fingers are in a normal bench press position. Hard to explain but the results are worth it. Like I said give them a try, if you aren't comfortable, ask for a spot, or JUST DON'T DO THEM! I hope this helps.

I have tried them on occasion, but never with enough weight to feel any real strain. It's something I wouldn't mind looking into more thoroughly. Do you do them on tri days or on chest? If you both on the same day I suppose it doesn't matter.

I usually do them on my tri/bi days.

Do you use about the same width grip as a bench press?

I think so too Mike. I meant to suggest in my original post that if you are new to reverse grips and want to try it, use the Smith Machine. If you're not comfortable, it's alot easier to stop than on a flat bench.

yea i do reverse grip also here and there. I do normal reverse grip and grip where my thumb and index, middle fingers are holding the bar and the bar rests on the ridge of the thumb area, so the low spot on the palm/wrist is where the bar is, hard to explain but i find it a lil more comfotable.

Yes. Only difference is my hands are in a reverse placement. I still put my index finger on the notch of the bar. Sometimes I use my middle finger to line up depending on how much weight I am using.
