: 01' GSXR Good buy?
B17FlyingFortress420 06-02-2010, 03:16 PM Hey there. I'm looking to purchase this bike tomorrow...thoughts?
I'm paying $1,800 CASH and a phone worth like $100
Bike is a 2001 GSXR 600 with 18,000 miles, clean title. It's fightered out now, but it comes with all the original bars, fairings/new front tire. The gas tank is smashed down fighter style, but this guy repaired it to look pretty decent. I don't really care about looks to be honest, I'll paint the tail/front white and call it a day and actually like the way it looks. He mentioned it's geared for doing wheelies and what not so I might eventually change it back to stock. I think it's a far deal. Thoughts?

wuzup76020 06-02-2010, 03:18 PM ide say good buy... :cheers
kbb has it listed at 3250 with 18K miles. :thumbup
finebykris 06-02-2010, 06:32 PM make sure the fairings fit without rubbing on the tire.
I got my bike the same way as this (same price even) and it had a tucked neck.

Hmm, I'll have to be sure to check that out. What do you mean by tucked neck? Does the flush mount install job seem to be of decent quality (from what you can tell in the not so good pictures). Thanks for the replies.
finebykris 06-02-2010, 06:43 PM Tucked neck meaning the bike was crashed, forcing the front wheel in, ultimately creating a shorter wheelbase and a steeper rake angle on the forks.
haha mine actually had flushmounts in the same place too. I wasnt fond of mine, so i removed them and I will be filling in the holes before I paint. I now have an integrated undertail for all of my lighting needs.
600k2 06-02-2010, 06:54 PM have him put the fairings back on first. do not buy it and find out that the lowers dont fit (hit the front wheel) because the frame is bent. also check to see if the 2 front bolts for the gas tank are there, and that the holes line up. a few weekends ago i saw a bike that the tank bolts didnt line up and the fairing were almost touching the wheel
600k2 06-02-2010, 06:58 PM on second thought, from the pic the wheel looks aweful close to the radiator.
you can find a nice clean stock bike for $3-4000 if you look around. by the time you are done with paint and getting it right again you will be further in the hole than the initial cost. i would stay away from that one.
mig1289 06-03-2010, 12:07 AM also those are 750 forks...
B17FlyingFortress420 06-03-2010, 12:35 AM Well the bit of confidence I had to go and get this tomorrow is nearly gone haha. I don't want a bike that's all messed up to begin with (tires to close to radiator sounds bad) The guy says he rides it everyday, but I guess he could say anything. He didn't tell me they were 750 fork either, possibly he didn't know (bike had a previous owner). Damn
FinebyKris, is that a bond girl in your profile? Thanks

It sure is. :)
My frame was bent and it was still rideable. Its worth checking out again, If you can verify that the frame isn't bent then it looks like a good buy. You need to consider, if he has all the fairings, why aren't they on? I was stupid enough to not think much about it. and in the end, its costing me almost almost $600 to straighten the frame and even more to replace the other bent parts (triples, wheel, swing arm)
If you search on here for "bent frame", you may find some helpful info to keep you form getting burned. A tip that i picked up from the frame straightener, is to look for lighter patches in the aluminum. You can only see them from certain angles but they're obvious when you see them and they're caused by the aluminum being stressed. Also a wavy area right next to the neck on either side is a good indicator of a bend.
B17FlyingFortress420 06-03-2010, 06:19 PM Thanks for all the advice, I decided to steer away from the GSXR and tomorrow I'm going to look at this 1999 F4 600 CBR, 20,000 miles, never crashed, clean title. $2,400 seems like a reasonable price right? KBB says $2,550. Thoughts?...

600k2 06-03-2010, 06:26 PM get more pics. lots of pics. do not be afraid to walk away.
i cant see ANYTHING in the pic you posted. its too small. take your own pictures when you look at it.
obviously, (but you HAVE to tell some people :rolleyes) DO NOT BUY A BIKE WITH NO TITLE, and check the VIN number against the title, its stamped IN the frame, plus theres a VIN sticker.
