hi all. have a 98 750 gsxr srad that has a blown engine, just wondering does anybody know what needs to be changed on a 97 carbed 750 srad engine to get it running in the fuel injected bike. have heard that the ignition timing is different on the two engines, that the head needs to be removed to change an ignition trigger inside. have also heard that the inlet camshaft and rocker cover will need to be switched over, other people say that the whole head needs to be switched, can anyone help me out. very hard to get reliable info!! thanks

If you use the search option ... you will find lots of information regarding this....
Here is one post:

If you have all the injected parts... From what others on here say... you should be able to bolt it in and change a few sensors like on the valve cover so you may have to change the cam ...
As well there are different :
fuel pumps for Carb and FI
Fuel tanks... (3 tubes out the back is FI ... 2 = carbed)
Wiring harness
Gauges
Air box
Throttle bodies
Intake boots
Neutral sensor (3 wires = FI, 2 wires= Carbed)
Thermostat housing has temp sensor for FI.... Temp sensor is on the rad for the Carbed bike
Please add more if I am missing anything......

maybe the fi valve cover to acomidate the cam position sensor. maybe the crank sensor is different to.. intake cam is different for sure, it is longer and has a steel pin in it that acts as a trigger for the cam position sensor. I know this has be done buy people on here..

If you have a FI motor that blew, you have a running Carbed motor, you have little to worry about.
Swap the valve cover and the cams (My understanding from the dealer is that the Ex cam was a little different as well). Change the gear poss sensor, the thermo housing and the stat.
I think that covers it all. The rest should bolt in with no problems.

FWIW, I would pull the VIN on that motor form the 97 bike. Some had a recal on them for piston to head clearance issues. It is a easy update to complete with the motor out of the bike.
Your local dealer should be able to tell you if that recall is applied to that motor and if it was completed.

If you want, you can also swap my carbed stuff for your FI stuff. Should be a straight bolt on(have a 97 Carbed)
