: K7/K8 slipper clutch, any adjustment?
Is there any way to adjust the OEM slipper clutch for back torque slip? I need the thing to slip a little bit more, it's forcing me to downshift under braking later in the braking zone than I'd prefer to avoid having the bike back itself in. I know there is aftermarket option but I'd rather not have to go that route. $$$.
Thanks.
SPL170db 05-09-2010, 12:36 PM You can adjust the lifter pins. Those 3 nuts and allen heads closest to the center.

gsxr1216 05-09-2010, 01:06 PM You can also adjust the wave springs behind the basket.
Is there a adjustment range on the lifter pins, or do I just guess? Anybody found a setup that works well?
I'm coming off a ZX-6R which had a excellent slipper clutch, if I can get anything near that on my K7 I'd be very happy with it.
Thanks.
GIX1000_07 05-09-2010, 03:32 PM I just replaced my clutch in my bike. I called kws to ask about the adjustments for the pins. this is what he told me.
Turn them in till you feel a very slight resistance. Then back it out 2 full turns and tighten the lock down nut. He also said that is just a base adjustment and to try it out then adjust it to my liking. After you set the base setting and try it if you need more slipping then turn the pins in less slipping turn them out. If you turn them in to far you will slip under power as well. Also make sure all the pins are set as close to the same as you can get them.

I searched as well before the forum split and didnt find anything about adjusting the 07 and up only 05/06. That is why I called kws to ask them.
Ken7-1000 05-09-2010, 06:29 PM allright, mine slipped under break in when I first got the bike. The problem "resolved itself" with a few miles but, when I tried synthetic oil, it returned. From this it looks like I can adjust it externally with just cover off. I was sure I'd have to pull the clutch to do this. Good info this. The FSM isn't exactly clear on this point.

You can adjust them through the "plug" hole in the clutch cover. Adjust one then turn the motor over a little till you can adjust the next one and so on. Or you can remove the clutch cover and do it that way.
Ken7-1000 05-10-2010, 02:00 PM Right already did it, took 15 minutes. Took them out a bit further than the recommendation and we'll see how it works when I ride it later in the year.

Try running the pins at 2 to 2 1/4 turns out. When you screw the pins in after loosening the lock nuts, just screw them in until you feel resistance, then back them out 2 to 2 1/4 turns. Turn them in to slip more, turn them out to slip less

Damn you quoted everything else I said why couldn't you quote me when I told him how to adjust them?
gixxertimenow 12-02-2011, 04:51 PM i just installed a new clutch last night, i did everything on this page, adjusted those three studs, let the clutch soak, and it doesn't engage the clutch when i pull the lever, and also the lever is ridiculously hard to pull, any ideas? also is there a diy vid or pics for this job?
gixxertimenow 12-02-2011, 04:54 PM the new kit i just put in was new plates, frictions plates, and springs, the spring are thicker then oem. torque the springs down to 8foot lbs, and turned the 3 studs until resistance and backed off 2 turns. the only thing i can think of is that throwout bearing, is the a spec for adjustment? or is there somting else i possibly have to adjust?
GIX1000_07 12-04-2011, 08:12 PM Check to make sure you put the pressure plate on correctly. There is a tab on the plate that has to go into grove in the basket.
