Hi guys, I'm posting on behalf of a friend.

He was on his way to work this morning, at a fair lick, and noticed a whine in second gear. Pulled over and found the chain goes tight-slack-tight-slack when the bike is wheeled forward, but in a tight spot , you can push your finger on the chain and it goes loose.

This sounds like it could be a shaft in the gearbox that's shot, the bike is on 16,000 miles, so shouldn't really be suffering this kind of failure.

Any help or ideas are very much appreciated!

Yep - sounds like a chain to me, 16000 is a LOT on a chain.

Do you think your "friend" should be riding a 170bhp bike "at a fair lick" if they can't spot a simple wear issue like a focced chain? :nono

Just wondering what else he may have missed- brake pads maybe? :dunno

The whine is ONLY in second gear, and it also more difficult to get into gear than usual.

my guess is he's been running with the chain too tight and fekked the output baering ?
