: if this shoulder doesnt get better soon.
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 07:32 AM im gonna go under the knife. but im not sure what they can do for me.. i think a lot of the problem is the built up scar tissue, and probably calcium build up in there as well. i am actually getting a bit depressed due to the fact that i cant lift the way i want to. ive been into weightlifting for about 12 years, and it took me a good 9 years to actually reach some substantial size. then 3 years ago this injury really started hindering my ability to train and maintain.. and its been an uphill battle ever since. ive been doing some basic rehab exercises with the shoulder, but i tried to do some military presses last week (light weight no less) and i havent been able to lift since cause my shoulder couldnt take it... this is pissing me off. so if by the end of the race season my shoulder isnt better im gonna have to get something seriously done.. so who has had shoulder surgery, what can they do for me, and how long of a recovery is it? i imagine what i might need is arthoscopic (i think thats the one, but not sure). im just pissed off right now. i should be a fucking monster like i was! im only 30 fucking years old, its not like im 50 and having these problems. im just venting mostly dont mind me. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I've got a nagging shoulder injury too... definately a pain in the ass. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif Mine doesn't sound as serious as yours though, and it actually seems to be improving with my increased workouts. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Get through the race season and get that fugger fixed... otherwise it's going to continue to drive you nuts. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Good Luck man... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

PHISH 03-01-2004, 08:21 AM I heard juice makes your bones brittle http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif j/k
I have a ton of injuries too. I suggest you get it looked at now and by the time race season is over, you'll be set for the knife!
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 08:58 AM i had my ortho take a look at my shoulder, and he wanted to take xrays. he said he saw no structural damage. and i can buy that, but what the hell is keeping me from lifting like i want to? it must be muscular, and all i can think about is lots of scar tissue, and i would think i would need an mri for that??? but im not real sure. all i know is that my shoulder acts up a lot, and its been keeping me from being who i need to be for a good few years now. and i need it fixed before i kill someone.

Seriously though...does it feel like its bone, or muscular?
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 09:41 AM its muscular. i have had tendonitis for years, and it comes and goes.. but this doesnt feel like tendonitits.. it feels like the muscle has a perminant strain in it.. if you were looking at my left delt from the front of me. it would be sort of near the back of it, near the bottom where it meets the bicept. the doc. told me the superspinatus (rotator cuff muscles) sounded like the problem, but ive been doing these light weight bullshit exercises for months with little or no improvement. its getting very frustrating. besides being a father there are a few things in life i need to do for my sanity, one is lifting, two is motorcycle racing, and three is masterbating. lol these are more than just hobbies, they are a way of life, and if i cant do them to the best of my ability i get very fucking nutty. although i can go without masterbating for some time with no ill effects. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
1qwik6 03-01-2004, 09:46 AM Hmm...maybe some sort of ultrasound therapy might work...
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 10:09 AM i dont know shit about that, but im up for anything. i need to be throwing serious weight around my house listening to deathmetal in my birthday suit. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 10:10 AM anyone know anything about acupuncture.. i always thought it was a little hokie... but ive heard some people swear by it.

by dad was using accu for CT and arthritis.. was working a bit.. not sure how hes feeling now. .my boss swears by it for any ailment...
oldgixxer 03-01-2004, 10:38 AM Is this the same Dr. that you were going to when we chatted awile back the one that suggested the light routine and possibly an injection?.
An MRI would show soft tissue damage, maybe you should look into that if you haven't done one already.Check your insurance first as they are $$$expensive$$$.
Ultimately it sounds like you need to find someone who can tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and the proper recourse. It could be alot of things, and sounds like it's almost something that you've had for awhile that just naggs you once you think it's getting better, actually doing more damage each time.
You'd be surprised how easy Arthroscopy is to recover from,I know alot of Strong-Man competitors and powerlifters who have had shit scraped from the joints and been back to 110% in 6 weeks.Look into it,because you know whats gonna happen when your 50yrs. old if you just "deal" with it now, absolute misery. And then you'll have to get surgery anyway.
And you can forget about ever meeting up with me to train after that last comment you posted. Some things are just not meant to be done nekkid http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I guess that would give new meaning and insight to "ass to ankles" squats...more like "balls-a-teabagging-the-rack-squats" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 10:44 AM haha, nah i just work out by myself like that sometimes.. but only when im feeling very neanderthal like.. i get the same way when im in a bar and i want to grab women by the hair and drag them back to my home... things were so simple in the days of the caveman, man i miss those days..
but seriously, ill have to check with my ins. and i do think i need to do something about it. and as you said, as soon as it doesnt hurt i start pushing it which probably just causes more damamge. id like to get some resolve to this as it has been a nagging injury for years, and ive always just dealt with it by getting a few good months of lifting, and then sitting out trying to do bullshit exercises for the rest of the year so i dont lose what i gained.. its just getting very old, and im very irrateable today. i would like to just cut this fucker off and go to the store and buy a new one, maybe pick up a pcIIIr and adjust the timing a little bit and id be good to go.

Behind the neck or front?
oldgixxer 03-01-2004, 10:51 AM There is no sense in letting it disgust you more.I know first hand(literally http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif)how upsetting and depressing this shit is.Were young bro, although not like we used to be.We can't just go balls to the wall like we were 21 again and feel no pain the next day.I have a few issues with certain movements that aggravate old injuries.Like behind the neck presses.Probably was not the smartest thing to do reps with 365 back in the day.But hell, fuck it and do it was my way of training and now I just can't anymore........
So concerning any surgery that will help you;I will qoute you and say "Just Bring It" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 10:56 AM i never do behind the necks. i used dumbells, or straight bar in front. last week i was using dumbells, and they were only 30 pounders, i was just going through the motions to get my shoulders ready for the weeks to come.. and the next day i couldnt do any upper body workout without the extreme discomfort.
for people who dont lift as a way of life they will never understand the addiction it is to improve yourself, and how it makes you feel both mentally and physically. i truly need it for my sanity, and that is something im beginning to lose again as this has been nagging me for a while. i needed to vent to people who understand this addiction.
1qwik6 03-01-2004, 11:08 AM I feel yer pain bro...major PITA...setbacks like this can suck a fat one...try grabing a 5# plate...lean up ahainst something, holding yourself up with one hand, and with the other make circular motions while holding the weight...does this make sense?
bmfgsxr 03-01-2004, 11:23 AM yep, ive been doing that stuff along with other things for months now trying to hook this fucker up.. this is a pretty good read here. ive been doing some of this stuff. its the same stuff my doc. said. http://elitefts.com/documents/shoulder-rehab.htm
RuffRyder02 03-01-2004, 12:05 PM With out doing a proper evaluation it's almost impossible to pin point what the problem is. I would suggest going to a Physical Therapist. In some cases the insurance company will cover it if you are referred by a Dr. From the area you described it sounds like a possible impingement of the infraspinatus. Here is a link to check out Clicky (http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/thr_report.cfm?thread_id=133&topcategory=shoulder)
Boston750 03-01-2004, 04:36 PM ya if you can find someone in your area that works specifically with athletes they might be the best person to go to for a shoulder evaluation, hockey players seperate/dislocate and do all sorts of things to all sorts of parts of the body and there were certain pt guys that focused on athletes and could identify and help fix problems great, if it is a lot of scar tissue like you think ultrasound may work to break it up, but not if theres a lot of it, my hip sounds just like your shoulder, toar all the major muscles and most of the minor ones, and theres a ton of scar tissue in there still that keeps my hip nice and fucked up, cortizone shots and e-stim got me through my senior year of hockey but cuz of my hip i couldnt play d-1, injuries that dont go away fuckin suck
PHISH 03-02-2004, 05:56 AM I have have scarred tissue on my knee from a dislocation and I just finished physio therapy. he used to work the crap out of the scarred tissue with his hans and then use the ultra sound machine. I ts doesn't hurt to go see a physiotherapist? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
bmfgsxr 03-02-2004, 10:41 AM thanks all. i was a raggy, angry fucker yesterday. today im feeling much better (although the shoulder is the same). i know i have tendonitis in both shoulders, but it comes and goes. what im feeling doesnt feel like it did when i originally got diagnosed with tendonitis. ill do what i can to work around it for now.
og, who is your ortho? i dont know any good ones in the area.
oldgixxer 03-03-2004, 07:52 AM I'll PM it to ya tonite ......
arc_light 03-05-2004, 04:46 PM from a combination of hockey and lifting. They improve the longer I stay away from the gym. They made sleeping on my sides near impossible for a fair bit of time.
Now, it sounds like your pain isn't located in quite the same area as mine. For me, overhead presses are out. The only way I can come close without real discomfort is to do Arnold Presses.
Here's something you might try. I brought up my own issues with a friend of mine a while back. He immediately suggested I try hitting a heavy bag.
In his youth he was a Golden Gloves boxer and spent some time in the pro ranks. I am all ears when this guy talks.
Give it a try....what've you got to lose?
For sure you ought to see a physiotherapist.
bmfgsxr 03-08-2004, 10:03 AM i almost always do arnold presses, but this does cause a bit of extra stress on the rotator cuff muscles. hitting the heavybag is out. i havent been able to train with the bag in about 9 years.. i used to do a lot of it, and i have a great bag id love to hang up, but the repetetive abuse would wax my shoulder... im just going to exercise the muscles i can, and do a shit load of cardio until the race season is over.. if the shoulder itself isnt good enough to lift the way i want to then ill cut the fucker off and buy a new one. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
