Okay for the next question :
I have a Dell Inspiron 2650
it when i checked the memmory has
PC2100-2033-0-A1 on the little sticker of the card
but also it had 128 DDR 133 MHZ CL2 16M x 64 SDRAM

I recently got recently recieved another memmory that has this on it
512MB 266 SODIMMMIT
512 DDR 266

does anyone know if this will work as they are both the exact same in appearence and fit into my computer but as i turn on the computer it starts up but no screen is to be shown.
So then I removed the memmory and left it empty try to start it up and the same thing happened. When i put mines back in it started up and ran like normal.

Do you think the problem is that it is tooo fast for the computer ( i have a pentium 4 laptop ) xp installed
Any help would be gladly appreciated http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did you try to run just the new memory by itself? Your board might have limits on just how much total RAM you can have.

yes i did. It only has 1 slot so I tried with the 128 in then 512 then with none in and
mines - 128 worked
other one - 512 didnt work just powered up
with none in it it did the same as with 512 in it so that may be the case as its limited

Didn't realize you had just the one slot. Where that's the case, you might be limited to 256mb of ram. If you get a chance to pickup a stick cheap, try to get the same PC133 as well. It might just be that the ram's too fast for it, but I don't know. Don't have much experience with laptops. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Some things are the same, some things may be a bit more limiting...

Whats happening here? If I am not mistaken PC2100 (266) is DDR RAM but you also state that it's SDRAM PC133. You can only use one, the slot should only be able to take one not both. SD and DDR both have different slot configurations. I thought all Pent. 4's took DDR. I'm so confused http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK Nevermind, Robben is correct in that you can only upgrade to a max of 256mb. I went on the dell web site and looked at your owners manual. It said for your model it takes PC200 (PC1600) so your new RAM speed is ok (PC2100) but it's just to big. Look on page 91 and you will see the info link PDF (http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/ins2600/en/SG/ombk2.pdf) . Sorry dude, that RAM isn't going to work.
