i bought a 2001 gsxr 600 , took it to the track ......first time
5k dump the cluch 12oclock
3k ride the cluch died on the line
9k ride the the cluch came up 1,2,3, gear down the track
best time 7.763 in 1/8 5 runs 1 win lol
so the next day i had a buddy look at the bike n we found
47 teeth on back sprket
tre(dont know if it hooked up has a toggle on it???)
k&n air flter
stock muffler
stock wheel base
good tires (dont know brand not at home)
i know my reaction time sucks 1.0000 something every time becouse im worried it will come up
but i waz woundering how long would i have to strech it
so that i could give it full power out the whole without comming up 120clock
forgot im 180 pounds
i was thinking 4 inches in the front n back becouse bike is allready to high and strech it 6 to 8:dunno

sounds like too much gear and not enough wheelbase. also sounds like you don't know how to launch yet. it's cool, everybody was a newbie once. practice, practice, practice. and don't be afraid to ask the guys at the track for tips. you're gonna hear a lot of crazy shit and you pretty much have to take it all in and figure out what works for you. also, don't dwell on reaction time. as a newbie you're probably thinking about too much to react decently anyway. once you launch a bike about a hundred times it becomes 2nd nature and your RT will get a lot better. so again, it's all about seat time.

gotta do it 100 times then 100 more... till it becomes 2nd nature
i rode my buddies 600 & had to launch off the limiter dam near & felt like i rode clutch for 200ft just to tote my arse(215lbs)

Gotta get that thing low. It's a 600 so you should be able to zing it out of the gate once you get it low.

Ok I ride a 600 . The trick is to ride that clutch. I launch and 12k but I ride that clutch good. The 600/750 don't have the torque like the 1k's and Busa's so you have to keep it in the power band. If you are riding a bucking bull then you are letting go to fast. In drag racing your 60ft's are what you want to work on. So like everyone says your seat time is important. Work on launching and getting your 60's down. Slam the bike if you can. Strap the front and lower the rear about 4 inches. That should help alot. Good luck.

i recommend lowering your bike.

Def lower your bike. It makes no sense to stretch it and not lower it.
Get you a strap for the front and lowering links for the rear. Most ppl lower the forks through the Triple Trees a lil bit too. Do a search and you will find out how to do this all. If you can't find it , Then ask...lol
Don't worry to much about reaction time at first. Worry about your 60fts. You will need to stage at high RPM in order to keep the bike in it's power range. It is going to take seat time to get it right and then more seat time once it's stretched...I would start off by lowering it about 4 inches in the rear and as far down as the strap will let you up front.

i actually just got back from my first time to the drag strip and I was cutting 1.8 60's. I was launching at 7k with a medium slip. It lifted a little bit every time. But came down pretty quick. actually busted out a 10.90 on my stock length stock height 600.
