I'm about to purchase an 04 750. This will be my first bike so I want to do it right. I've ridden a few 600's and 750's that a couple of my friends own but, I felt it was time for me to get my own. What do you think the first thing that I should buy for it. I already have a helmet, jacket, gloves. I was thinking about getting a Yosh Tri-Oval slip-on for it. I was wondering should I ride it stock for a while or just drop the money on it right at the dealer out the crate??? Somebody let me know............. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Just ride it for a while.

Worthy revisions are, (no particular order other than the 1st two)

Remove all warning stickers
Remove all reflectors
Install frame sliders
Remove rear mud flap. Install nice plate& indicator mount
Replace front indicators with mini's
Install bolt on pipe. (TRS Yoshy is good)
Double bubble shield

Later consider steel braided lines and power tune on dyno.

What does steel braided lines and tuning your dyno do for your bike??? I heard the Tri-oval from yosh is better than the trs. What do you think???

i'd say the first things to do are

install intutive frame slider
remove warning stickers
remove factory reflectors
remove mudflap and replace with a nice kit
replace windshield with a double bubble

and then ride it for a few months and see what you need.
Some people find that after a few months they like the sound and power but don't like the braking so they upgrade the braking or vise versa.

I suggest you do that so you don't just replace things for the poser sound or look. I have a 03 R1 and it still runs the stock exhaust...why because it's not a part that i'm conserned about since I like the twisties and not stunting or the loud pipes, but did upgrade the brakes and added things like a steering damper and so on to help the bike perform better. So my best advice is to just do those and then ride it until you find what you want to replace not what others tell you to do.

braided lines help to reduce the swelling of the brake lines under pressure giving you a better feel and more precise braking. Dyno tuning lets you adjust the bike to your modifications such as exhaust, airbox mods and others to help achieve the highest performance from your bike by tuning things like the fuel.

Ditto on the frame silders being the first thing to get. Protect your investment. First your head, then your bike. A brighter aftermarket bulb would help you get noticed(safety-wise, not bling-wise). Also you can protect your tank from zippers and what-not with a tank protector.
No as for my aSShole reponse: Being that your first bike is a 750SS I4, might I suggest wheelie bars. Pop down a cog or two at the wrong time and you'll be in for a surprise. Otherwise, good luck with your sweet bike! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A 750 as your 1st bike http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif .....good luck.

As far as things you should do.....try a MSF course 1st and go from there.

the best thing to do security wise is to store it inside of something, no matter if it's a garage or your apartment or house. You can get Kryponite locks and chains for a quick lock while you go in a place but when it's at home or sitting for awhile I suggest you put it in a garage.

every time you ride your putting wear on the bike... just take care of that thing like if it were your baby and you should be good to go. read up on the boards and soak up as much info as you can. congrats on your buy, the new 04's look awsome! as far as the slip on.. I would personally save up and spend the money on a full system, but that's just my .02 cents. Dont buy aftermarket things from the dealer b/c they will rape you. everything else that was mentioned I would agree with also.

ride safe...

If all you are goind is a bolt on don't worry about a dynojet power commander as it wont help much.

Before buying braded lines make sure the brake lever is adjusted at the farthest point.

(I have a friend who bought brake lines but keeps his lever about mid way on the adjustment)

FRAME SLIDERS
SWINGARM SLIDERS Frame sliders at least
BAR SLIDERS

But as most have said ride it for a bit and see what you want.
