Get yourself a meter and check the wiring for continuity.

dumb question, but did you run the bike? The gauge won't read till it gets above a certain temperature I believe.

Also, are you sure the coolant is full? It's hard to read the water temperature if there isn't any water. ;)

That's not a dumb question. I was assuming the bike was running.

The temp will not read until it reaches around 104*F.

I ran the bike for like 10 min. It would say 104 then go back to - - - and then it would say 105 then go back to --- . It did this until about 108 then it didnt register any temp. I shut it off for a few min and when i turned the key on it read 176 and when i started it the temp didnt register again.

My temperature would jump around and not read correctly so I replaced EVERYTHING. It was something in the gauge that was faulty. I got a used one off eBay and haven't had any problems since.

I don't know if there is any way to fix a broken gauge though.

Does everything else work ok? Many people have commented on the fact that the gauge cluster is the first place they see things go wrong when the charging system is not working correct.

Just a thought to check with that first since the SRADs are known for MAJOR Charging problems.

Good call John.

When my battery died, my gauges started acting funny. The needles would drop if I used my turn signals, etc.

The rest of the cluster seems to work fine. The only thing i can think of is the fi light will sometimes come on for less than a second when im riding and then not come on again.

I would do as gsxr_freak and install a switch to recover the codes. If it is coming on then off again, could be a loose connection somewhere.

I think it ones of the wires going to the sensor. It looks pretty f*cked up.
