So i've been dieting/working out for a week now. Actually I wouldn't call it dieting... I don't like that word. I like to call it... eating healthy. I've cut out sweets i.e candy, soda, chocolate, and i've increased my fruit/veggie intake, and tried to watch the carbs i'm eating. So how'm I doin? Is there any specific things that you guys/gals eat? Like can someone give me a diet from breakfast-dinner that they follow? I'll give you mine:

Breakfast - Nurtigrain breakfast bar
Snack - yogurt
Lunch - 2 peices of fruit, 1/2 sandwich or salad
Snack - 10 carrots
Dinner - something sensible most of the time...

Am I eating too little? I'm looking to lose about 15-20 lbs in about 3-4 months. I'd like to lose it faster than that, but I have 3-4 months to lose it. So if I lose it in 2 months (2 lbs a week) i'll be fine. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I'm not sure what the nutritional facts are on those nutragrain bars, but i'd suspect they have allot of sugar / carbs / calories. Also, that's not enough for breakfast... Breakfast should be your biggest most nutritious meal of the day. Yogurt is a GREAT snack... As for lunch, cut back on the fruit and add more vegies. Fruit has natural sugar that converts into fat quickly. 1/2 a turkey/chicken/ lean beef sand is fine. Carrots are "good"... but also have lots of natural sugar.

Here's a typical day for me when I was dieting.

Breakfast...
1/2 grapefruit
1 bowl healthy cereal
1 protein shake
....and lots of vitamins

Snack... ( just one )
banana
or yogurt
or protein bar
or protein shake
or vegies
or cottage cheese
.... basically something very moderate and low cal.

Lunch...
Chicken breast
Salad
diet coke.

Snack... (something like the snacks above)

Dinner....
Chicken & Brown Rice
vegies

Late night snack...
protein shake made with skim milk.
or yogurt.
or cottage cheese

Eat something healthy every 3 hours to get your metabolism up and the weight will come off. Gotta keep up the cardio too. If you search this forum a bit there are quite a few threads filled with healty foods to choose from. Most importantly is low cal in / high cal out. Don't starve yourself though... If your hungry, you've already waited too long to feed youself. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Awesome spidey.. that's just what I needed. I printed out that info.. thanks http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif How are the lunchmeats to eat? I don't want to limit myself to just grilled chicken, is there any way to get around that? I suspect foods such as soup, tuna, etc, have alot of sodium too? Also, i'm not a fan of cottege cheese, is there any way to spice it up so I might like it?

So eat more veggies, and less fruit? I think i've heard that somewhere, good advice. But don't worry, I won't cut out fruit altogether. Hmmm, eat more breakfast. So pass on those nutrigrain bars, and have a cup of special K, or smart start with some skim milk? SOunds good. And maybe a half an orange or something.

So if i'm going to the foodstore (which i'm going to tonight or tomorrow)... what should I get? I know, i'm annoying, but i'm really trying to get this down pat. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Also, it doesn't help that i'm really really really picky with my foods. I eat alot of *cooked* veggies, string beans, corn, carrots, broccoli, but as for not cooked, I don't like much. Also, is it okay to "live outside the diet" sometimes? Like splurge one night or something? Or do I have to be strict with myself all the time? I'm excited to start losing weight. Like I said before, i'm far from fat, but I just need to lose some and then tone up. 15-20 might be to much, I might like 10-15 better... but i've gotta lose something.

lol, your not annoying hon... how ya going to learn if you don't ask? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Lunchmeats are not "bad" if you can find FRESH cuts... not the pre packed stuff. As those have all kinds of preservatives added into them. This goes for everything.... FRESH is ALWAYS better... It's a pain in the ass sometimes to make fresh food for every meal, but your body will thank you. Also... I said grapefruit for breakfast because it has natural metabolism boosters in it. Grapefruit is a dieters dream fruit.

As for the occasional "cheat". I think I'd die if I didn't indulge myself every so often. However, I suggest being quite strict until you see any results. After you've noticed a big difference... cheat a little here and there to keep your sanity. On the other hand, you shouldn't necessarily be rewarding yourself with food per-say... Reward yourself with new clothes that you couldn't fit into before... or new workout sneakers that you deserve for working so hard. Start thinking of food as necessary flue to survive instead of a treat and your dieting will be much easier. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

if you want to loise weight you have to count calories.....you cant go by someone elses diet you have to come up with your own that fits your needs.
you can try a 40/40/20 diet ...that is a 40 prot 40 carb 20 fat
to get your claroies take anytwehre from 12-15 x your bodyweight then cut off 500 from that...you are more then likely gonna be aorund 13or so...unless you are real active or fast metabolism...but if you are overweight then thasts probally not the case so around 13 would be best id say...heres a example
13xbodyweight
say your body weight for example is 140
13x140=1820
-500
1320 total caloires a day
40% prot is 528
40%carb is 528
20%fat is 264

carbs and rpotein are 4 caloires per gram
fat is 9
so divide the caloires per gram by the your intake to get your grams for the day
so prot 528/4 =132 grams prot a day
carb 528/4 = 132
fat 264/9 = 29.3
so now pick some foods that you like split it up into 5 or 6 meals a day and if you like you can stop eating the carbs around 4th meal..and thats your diet
fructose is not the best choice for carbs though...i aint telling you not to eat it just dont revlove your carbs around it...pick up some multi vitamins and some vitamin c and e to take daily...try to stay away form sugars...you want to really just eat for carbs slow burning complex carbs.and fibrous carbs!!!..and fruit is "shit"...lol...no offence spidey...best of luck!!!

listen to this guy you will end up a fat ass...lol...im not sayign you cant eat bad food...but if you want to lose weight you need to count caloires and do cardio...after you get to a weight you like then you still have to eat responsibly but then you can add in more junk that you like and do cardio all week to burn it off...eatign shitty food all day and doign cardio will get you nowhere..but this is just ,my opinion..

shroom is prob like me...got a real fast metabolism....im in college and just started eating right within the last 2 months, but for the 5 years before that i ate everything in site at all hours of the day, and honestly probably got drunk 4-5 nights of the week at least, and at my heaviest i reached 190, and i owe that to my metabolism, i eat right now and workout and i weight prob 183-185, at about 10% body fat, and i can see a huge difference, granted i wasnt fat before, but now i look very healthy just because i eat right and workout, im not too strick with my cardio, but my diet is pretty much chicken steak eggs and tuna on whole weat....its not much variation but i love all four of those so i dont mind eating them all the time, i throw in salads and rice and potatos cuz im irish and i need them or ill die, still drink 2 nights a week, and usually eat french toast on saturdays and calzones on sundays, so you can eat what you want 1-2 days a week but be very strict the rest of the week and workout like its your job, someone else maybe spidey said to be very strict and not cheat until you see results, and i agree with him....you gotta get your body in the right direction before you can start to cheat, and if you still wanna lose real fast dont cheat at all

...this will catch up with you in the end. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif

Your body will perform against what you put into it - it doesnt matter how many pressups/situps you do you will still be unhealthy and unfit with a diet based on fast food and soda - and it will affect your ability to be fitter or gain muscle or lean out. Yes you can eat whatever you want but it will be to your detriment. If you want to be properly fit eat properly.

eat the proper diet and you will get results quicker, and be more healthy and motivated for it. Have more energy for longer and be less prone to falling ill.

A decent diet doesnt have to be torchourous - the key is to eat healthy and balanced and excersise. If you do that you wont have to watch your calories and you wont be struggling or worrying about what you are eating - a healthy diet is far more tasty than junk crap anyway once you get used to it.

Just becuase its not putting weight on you doesnt mean its not detrimental to the way your body performs.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm definitly on track, i've lost about 3 lbs so far. And it's only been a little over a week! Though 3 lbs, isn't much, it's definitly a start! I'm starting to really catch on to this thing, i'm eating small meals every 3 hours like Spidey said, and i'm not even feeling hungry. I went to the food store, and really payed attention to what I put in my cart. I picked up alot of boneless chicken, leafy greens, veggies, etc. I also picked up some l-f cottage cheese, to try (i've never had it!).

From the posts, I feel like some people here think i'm a load. I'm far from it. I'm in great shape, can go to the gym and keep up awesome on cardio. I've been an athlete all my life. I don't have any rolls in my body, I have a tight ass, thighs, and calves too. My personal trainer thinks that I have amazing tricepts, so if I lose the extra weight, I think they'll show through awesome! I just want to lose the extra nonsense fat so all my muscles can show through. Even though this is on the internet, I just don't want people to think i'm some fatso on a bike http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've always taken care of myself, always got exercise, and never really got into the whole "fast food" fiasco.

Like I said, thanks for looking out. U guys are great!

hayez and spidey have been hitting this right on! spidey is more on the muscle building diet with all that protein which is exactly right on. learn how to read the labels with the cal's proteins, carbs, fats, and most importantly servings per container!! 40/40/20 is right on where when i was in my cut stage it was 50% carbs 30% proteins and 20% fats. do not cut out those carbs for thats what gives you energy through out the day...that atkins stuff is a bunch of shit!! the healthy proteins come abundant in a lot of foods people dont like to eat but after you are doing it for a couple of weeks you will come to like that stuff and it will actually be hard to go back that junk! agree with the cheat...i have a cheat day and thats saturday...keep that sanity and you'll also have something to look forward too during the week. good luck to ya girl!!

Lol... gixie the fatso... I guess I was having a self consious day...Lol! Thanks for the replies guys, and thanks wifey http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I find myself wanting to eat healthy instead of feeling like I "have" to eat that way. I just had my bowl of smart start with low fat milk. Yummy. Then i've got my yogurt for my snack, salad (with f/f dressing.. that actually doesn't taste like crap), and cottage cheese, carrots, and a peice of fruit. I'm also feeling great about not drinking soda and having sweets. I don't even feel tempted anymore. I bought some bottled water for on the go nights for myself, so I don't visit the soda machine at school. Since i've been into it for like 2 weeks now, i'm feeling excited to get to my goal, and actually my b/f is being so great. He's excited and helping me along the way too. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif This forum is great... so much info!

I've set some new goals for myself, including a new bikini. I'm supposed to be going on a cruise in June, so I want to buy myself a new bikini... (wifey you'll know what i'm talking about)... one with the little ties on the hips? I've always had bikinis, but opted for the "boy" shorts because of my arse.... but I want one with ties http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif I'm creating a new "me"... and it's about time. I'm having my teeth professionally whitened, because from years of drinking soda/tea, my teeth are not as white as i'd like. All the money my parents spent on braces, my teeth are straight and i'd like to show them off. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm going to step outside of my normal "box" and completely do things for myself. I'm excited... and I think by the time I walk on stage for my graduation, i'll be my new person! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

i dont know i like cc just how it is...you could try pepper on it...do your exercises now...they will burn more calories anyway...if you do cardio and workout on the same day do one in the mornign and 1 at night..plus build otne muscles so once your body fat gets real low you can have soem definition coming thru.and have pre workout meals and post workout meals....but programs themselves you will have to get from someone else becuase i dont know to much how laides body ract to working out
