I finally received my much anticipated Troyer tunes two days ago, i loaded up my X3 and ran out to my truck and loaded that puppy up. It was almost 11PM and I went for a late night cruise.
The tune itself is everything I expected from Troyer's reputation, which is exactly why I ordered it in the first place. The transmission shifted nicely, the performance through the powerband is awesome and the pedal is much harder. I have to wait for a few fill ups to see if my gas mileage improved, but I am assuming it will.
My question is was it worth waiting almost a YEAR for my tunes I wonder how much damage I did to my transmission pushing the larger tires on a stock tune, not to mention poor gas mileage. To be fair here at my dates:
April 2009 - Placed order over the phone for X3 and 3 custom tunes (3 month estimated wait time)
May 2009 - Sent in tune worksheets
June 2009 - Troyer requested additional info for my worksheets (but that should not have lost my place in line)
March 16 2010 - Received custom tunes
Every time I called/emailed and asked about my tunes I got an apology and a "just wait a few more weeks". It got to the point that I stopped calling because I didnt appreciate being lied to over and over. I literally had an appointment next week to have a custom tune done at a local shop (while I waited) then received the e-mail with my tunes. Troyer did include an additional 93 Octane tow tune to make up for ridiculous wait time, its cool but I dont know what I need an high octane tow tune for.
In the end I wish they had been upfront with me, if I had known it was going to be 10-12 month wait I would looked into a different tuner option. So if you plan on buying a truck in 2011 you better order your custom tunes now!
