: Anyone Has a Yoshi Full Race have Fairing Buring Probs?
GeMoose23 01-05-2001, 03:59 PM Hello,
My Left fairing is now starting to melt from the Exhaust header pipe from hitting it.
Does this happen to anyone else?
Thanks

fastbike34 01-05-2001, 10:44 PM No fairing melted, but my oil pan is lightly contacted by the pipe on the right side. I've reinstalled it three times and cannot get it to align perfectly.

imported_jeff 01-05-2001, 11:22 PM run over to home depot or your local hardware store and get some heat shielding material, and put it on the inside of the fairings near where the exhaust goes past it.
eusasc 01-06-2001, 01:39 AM No problems with the stock fairings or race plastic.

bcjohn 01-07-2001, 03:45 PM I've seen it in bike pictures. I gather it depends on the production variances etc.
Watch out for the hardware store shit. Its insulation between the aluminized sections is bubble wrap and is rated to a max of 300F.
Go the extra and buy one roll of Thermo-Tecs header wrap and do it up right a few inches before, through and after the melt part.
Gooood luck! http://www.gixxerforum.com/ubb/images/icons/grin.gif
PS: if the melt part isn't where the header touches but just comes too close, you can get the Thermo-tec insulated tape. Its pretty thick, but really insulates well for header/oil line shit. Just cover the inside of the fairing where the 'offending' header runs too close.

gsxr1997 01-09-2001, 10:23 PM mine shows some signs of heat at rear of the lower fairing belly where the exhaust exits to the muffler. other than that no other areas affected.
p.s. after an extremely hot summer in fla. i decided to wrap the headers. keeps things alot cooler inside the fairings now

Christien Dana 01-10-2001, 08:40 PM I had the same problem with my Akrapovic system. But all it took to fix it was to re-adjust the collector pipe(try to rotate it slightly CW when viewed from the rear of the bike). This tends to move the offending pipe out of the way. You'll need to keep things loose to adjust properly. It took me a couple of tries to get it right, but my old Yosh full system had no problems at all. Go figure.

Christien Dana 01-10-2001, 08:43 PM Oooops. I'm an idiot. It was the left header pipe, not the right one. Ignore what I said.

jp233 01-16-2001, 11:51 AM Damn, I just noticed two burn spots on my nice Sharkskinz fiberglass body !!! I have a Yoshi RS-3 full race....and on the lower right fairing there are two burn spots.....
where would I find heat shielding tape to ocver my header pipes, I live in Georgia so I might look to wrap all the headers to keep the engine cool during the hot summers.
Can someone recommend a specific product to use to wither wrap the headers or cover the inside of the fairing? Thermo-Tacs.....cant find it on the web.....please help!!! I want no more burnt fiberglass
thanks

eusasc 01-16-2001, 01:48 PM Try some of the high perfomance car shops in your area, they should have it.

Satch 07-28-2002, 12:57 PM I have a yoshimura RS-3 stainless steel, full race, Duplex header, high mount exhaust system on a 1999 GSXR600 and I had the same problem. I don't what RS3 Yosh full systems and what year GSXRs that people have that didn't have any problems but it may be related to the Duplex high mount or year of the bike. Anyway, the web site for Thermo-tec is http://www.thermotec.com. I used the Thermo-tec Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier and it works great. It is capable of withstanding radiant temperatures in excess of 2000°F.

bmoney 07-28-2002, 06:38 PM My RS3 race system was starting to melt the plastic right where the exhaust came out from the fairing (below your right peg and brake pedal). It wasn't too bad, so I placed a few small pieces of that aluminized tape that you can get at the hardware store (basically looks like a silver roll of duct tape). I haven't had any problems since. Nice, cheap, and easy. images/icons/grin.gif
Ntfstengh 07-28-2002, 08:01 PM My Micron was doing the same thing...So I decided to go the cool custom part direction.
1. Found some sheet aluminum at my work
2. Took a small block of wood, and carved out a small divet in it. Then sanded it smooth.
3. Cutout the sheet aluminum to a specified size.
4. Took a ball nose hammer and formed the aluminum to the wood divet.
5. Cut the rest of the aluminum into shape.
6. Drilled some holes into the aluminum for rivets.
7. Cutout torched yellow plastic of fairing and drilled matching holes.
8. Polished up the aluminum part and rivetted (sp?) to the fairing.
I thought it turned out pretty damn cool:)
Well...pics aren't working...i'll post some later.

fRaGgLe 07-29-2002, 07:13 PM ooooh - that part is so sweet images/icons/smile.gif
I have a minor problem in that area - 98 Gix750, RS3 full race/high-exit.
I have been gradually trimming the plastic away and not really worrying about it too much....
Ntfstengh 07-30-2002, 02:29 AM Here are a couple links to the pics of the part I made.

imported_Craig 07-30-2002, 07:02 AM I've got the same issue on my '99 750 with yoshi full race carbon fiber. I just trimmed the plastic away where it was melting since it wasn't in a noticable place.
GSXRLightning 07-30-2002, 09:43 AM Sorry to hear that guys but NO Such problem for my 98. I have the "Yoshimura RS-3 Carbon High Mount, Duplex Race." graemlins/sbike.gif
